I feel a little silly posting this as a prayer request, but truly that is what I would covet for this.
I have been having bad nightmares at night and serious panick attacks during the day. I had one day where I had hallucinations during the day, but that hasn't happened in the better part of two weeks.

I don't know if these are just spiritual warfare or if my mind won't shut down, or if its just something so simple as too much sugar and its bugging up my head.

Please pray that I could get these dreams and attacks under control. I am so sleepy ;) and really want to be able to face the day fresh and ready to go, not just as tired the next day as I was the night before.

Thanks Girls!! :)

I never said that natural things won't help but I just think that I would rather have something that has helped me. Anxiety is a disease in that some people handle stress this way and some people do not. it is the way our body is wired. some people never get it even though they are very stressed. and it is hereditary ,it runs in certain families and not others. so do other diseases. Lavonna, have you ever had anxiety problems yourself? It is terrifing and you feel all alone and you feel weak if you go to the drs and ask for help cause "I should be able to handle this on my own" goes through your head. You are always on high alert for something to happen so your body is always tense. There is nothing wrong with going to the dr and getting meds that help. not for just a little while but basically for the rest of your life because it comes to a point where you have to accept that you have this problem and just deal with it and then you can go on with your life. Asking a Dr for help is not a bad thing. somethings need the dr. something you can go with the natural stuff but sometimes you need the help of others and God puts us here to help one another. He also puts drs here to help too. A therapy group of other people helps a lot too because they have been in your shoes and no what you are going through. It is a hard process to go through but there is light at the end of the tunnel and you do come out on the other side and feel much better. and if drugs can help then use them for what they are intended for and get your life back. I had small children when I started having problems and I wish there had been the meds they have now for anxiety. It was hard and all I want to do is give jessie all the help I can. I also believe praying is very helpful, God is there for you too. I just figure use all the available help out there to get passed this time. People who have been there is a good tool. Laying off sugar and caffiene does help as well. going to the drs is another tool. talking to people is a good tool. you need them all. no one thing gets you through this time.

I am sorry and this is the last I am posting on this subject here as I am most out numbered. Anxiety is not a disease. It comes from living under stress and putting so much stress on your adrenal glands and keeping your fight or flight reaction kicked in all of the time. Find your answers where you will. There are natural supplements that help- calcium, b vitamins (which we burn like wildfire when we live under stress), magnesium. the herb Kava Kava has help some. Gaba has absolutely helped some folks. Valarian is not one of my favorites at all. St Johnswort has helped many people but negates birthcontrol pills so if you rely on those it would not be a good choice. there are numerous choices to help feed your body so it can correct and bring itself back to balance. My help came from the liquid seaweed product. There are nutrients we are running short of when anxiety is a problem. But I do not believe that we have a xanax or paxil shortage. These are just ambulances down in the valley.

Also, there is a great book called "Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers" you might find answers in there- I did.

Sorry, girls, I am a natural health practioner, I turn to these things for help.
Now I will hush and stay out of this one.

I believe you have to see your dr first and get the prescription and try asking at the clinic and ask your dr too. We have a really good clinic up where I live that really help you get meds. I do not have insurance either and they have a program up here that if you are taking meds on a long term basis you can sign up for it depending on your income and get help so there should be some kind of help out there for you. You might just have to do some checking around. Just ask questions and don't be embarrassed to ask. No one can help if they don't know you need it. Everyone need help at sometime in their life and I figure then when I can help them , I do and when I need help I ask and it all goes around. If they give you grief or a look that is their problem not yours. Don't let them pass it on to you. Let them keep it. hehehehehehe

I agree it is a disease. Its something that infiltrates your life and unless you get in under control will take over. It is very hereditary I have to believe. My grandmother and aunt are the same way. I will have to look into what you said about the companies. Do I need to see a dr first to get the prescription, I wonder. I can call the clinic and see. You are right, it isn't any better having troubles from meds with the children around than dealing with the attacks.
Thanks for keeping up with me on this one. :D

Hi Jessie,
xanax does make you sleepy. I have never tried valerian so don't know much about it. But paxil will take care of your needs of having panic attacks and should not make you so sleepy that you can not take care of your baby. beside when your having a panic attack how well can you take care of a child and when the child gets old enough to see the panic attack what are you teaching that child. There are companies that will help you get your meds for next to nothing or nothing. you really can get them through the company. Check with your dr. or clinic you go to or call the number on the tv that has montel as the spokes person. They will help you get meds. You have to take responsibility for your recovering of this disease. That is what it is , A disease.

HI Beverley,
I was on Xanax for a while, then I went more natural and tried Valerian root on my own but that was bad news. Then I went back to the Drs on went on Paxil CR for about two years. That worked really well and if I had a choice, that would be the one I would want to use.
I don't have health insurance though, so those types of meds are also expenses. Might sounds like bad excuse, but money is tight and I don't want to add extra expense I can't afford. :)
I was more worried about the being sleepy and unalert which are two side affects I noticed while on all three of these.
I havent totally ruled out meds, but Id like to try my best with something more natural first.:)

Thank you all for your encouragement. :D

Panic attacks are awful. I had one so bad once I thought I was having a heart attack. Don't feel bad about it, it happens sometimes. I've been better since I got on medications for PTSD and bipolar. As others have said make sure you get your sleep. That's a very simple thing but crucial. And you can never go wrong with prayer...

Jessie, what meds were you on before your kids. unless you are breastfeeding there should not be a problem. I have had panic attacks and anxiety problems due to OCD for years and since I have been on meds I am a different person. I can go anywhere, have fun and enjoy life. God gives us DR's and medicine so that we can work through these things. I believe God put DRs and meds here for us to use. We have to be willing to ask and get help. If you were a diabetic you would have to take meds and this is nothing different than that. I think we have to have the serenity to accept the things we can not change and accept them and take the meds to help us live a better life. This is not a perfect world and there are un perfect things in it and sometimes having a chemical inbalance in our brain is just one of them. God helps us through by givng us drs to go to. He is still there for you.

Thanks girls! I am headed over to your blog to check it out LaVonna.
Beverley--I was on meds for it for quite a few years, but since Ive had children Ive been so worried about the side effects, I am a little nervous to take them while being a lone with the children all day.

I am still praying about trusting God to take them away. Last night was a lot better and except for getting up with the baby, I was able to sleep the whole night ...nightmare and panic free.
I hope it keeps up.
thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers!!
I am amazed at how many of you have gone through this too. It makes me feel encouraged that I am not alone.

Jessie,
It can't hurt to go and see your Dr. and ask for his or hers help either. Lack of sleep can do so many weird things. You need a good night sleep and you will feel better. never forget that asking for help is ok to do and asking a DR. for help is never a bad thing. God would not have put them here on earth for us if he didn't expect us to use them.

I read this thread last night and it has kind of haunted me. I used to have such horrible times with panic attacks. It all ended two years ago when I found a certain nutritional product. I did not join Mary Jane Farmgirl group to sell my products - I did so because I am a farmgirl (ro farmwoman) but when I read this I have to tell about this help I found.

I am not going to go into a sales speech about it. But I will tell you that before I started on this I had about 10 years of middle of the night "heart attacks" and I could not drive over high bridges, or fly in planes. I could hardly travel at all. Since then I have been on several trips including a cruise which I never could have handled. I was on xanax and it was horrible to live like that. Since starting on it I have had none. I will say that it is one of those magic juice drinks but not a antioxidant one like Xango or Mona Vie it is a glyconutrient drink. I have never completely figured out why it worked but it changed my life. It is a bit expensive but it is worth it to have my life back.

I think I posted about it on my blog. But you can email me too. I am truly not trying to sell this but feel absolutely bound to share the information to anyone in need. Even if you buy it from someone else.

Jessie,

I know it probably sounds silly to some but it is so beneficial.

Just go through the alphabet and pray for those people, topics that start with the letter "A', then move on to "B", and so on and so forth. Only good can come of it. You are spending time communing with the Lord, praying for others, and taking your mind off your issues which can help you to relax.

A gal I know shared that with me when I was going for an MRI. It really does help calm your nerves. I hope this helps :)

I know that sugar definitely doesn't help me. I found out after always having it(everyday multiple times), and then stopping. I felt so good after stopping. Then one day I bought a Reese's and I can't believe how awful and moody it made me. I do try to moderate and also try to use better sugars. It can't hurt :)

Sharon-How do you pray the alphabet? It sounds awesome. I would love to know!

I'm not on any meds right now. I do drink a lot of soda and eat quite a bit of yucky sugars. It isn't anything new for me to do that though. Is it still possible this could cause it?

Jessie--I used to think that it was spiritual warfare causing my hallucinations till I found out it was a med. I'd been taking to help me sleep. I stopped taking it and no more hallucinations. and yes, it affected me during the day as well. I do believe in spiritual warfare, but I'm glad it was only the med. that was messing me up. I thought for a long time that God must not love me because I'd pray and still i'd have bad dreams. I now take skullcap when I feel a panic attack coming on and it has no side effects. many doctors don't know about the side effects of some meds. Also, too much sugar, caffeine or simply lack of sleep can cause problems. I also finds it helps to do something creative--such as writing, embroidery, or painting--when I'm feeling upset. It seems to "trick" the brain into thinking positive thoughts. I will keep you in my prayers and hope you find something that works good for you. I know it's hard to feel good when you have bad dreams--the human mind is quite incomprehensible at times.

Jessie,

I will most definitely keep you in my prayers. I know how hard it is to function without the proper amount of sleep. Are you reading before bed? I like to read through the Psalms, they seem to help calm my nerves and my last thought is God's word and His promises. When I have trouble sleeping I pray through the alphabet, this helps too. I pray that you will have a wonderful night of good quality sleep and rest.

Jessie-I'll be praying for you. I used to suffer horribly from panic attacks, but as I've gotten older they've finally seemed to stop for the most part.

I'm sure you already know this, but if you have anxiety/panic disorder one of the things you need to do is cut out caffeine. Just don't do it cold turkey or you'll get those nasty withdrawal headaches.

Whenever you feel an attack coming on, try to take some deep slow breaths or do whatever you can to take your mind off the attack. Just remind yourself that nobody has ever died from a panic attack..even though they sure make you feel like you are!

Oh, Jessie, bless your heart.

I have had nightmares that make me yell or groan in my sleep plenty of times. As I grow older I am feeling angry instead of afraid in them but it is still nightmares..but if someone didn't wake me up then I wouldn't even remember.

If you think it may be spiritual warfare then you know what to do. Ya don't need a sermon from me. I do believe spiritual warfare happens and it can be very painful. Praying for yourself, sharing about it and asking for prayer are the best things to do...in my experience.

I have also read that meds can cause them....be sure to read the side effects of any meds you are taking. Side effects can happen anytime even after taking a med for a long time.

I have had visions that I knew were not halucinations...mine were good and not scary but I know that God does help people who have a good and kind heart like you do.

I've had friends tell me that enough lack of sleep causes halucinations...it's just the brain needing rest.

I know that your Farmgirl sisters are honored to pray for you and with you.
