In honor of our frined and co-worker Jim, (mentioned in this forum) a bunch of us at the zoo donated blood in his honor yesterday. The blood mobile makes stops here 3 times a year. Makes it really convenient.

The turnout was truly awe-inspiring. Even old retirees made an appearance.

I'll have the final count later on today.

I also donated. Such a small gesture that can save so many.

And when Jim was admitted for the first initial group of surgeries, I think he required 15 units of blood

Total units of blood collected in Jim's name was 55!

For us that well exceeded any expectations!

We usually get something like 25 or so.

If I could give more in one sitting, I would!

Aww that's wonderful Anna! I have to say it is encouraging to hear about other good things people have done. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad that Jim is recovering and the turnout for giving blood was so well attended. I'd like to give blood but I take medication that sometimes makes me dizzy, and if I gave blood, I'd probably faint afterwards. I know someone who did; she required stitches in her head and missed three weeks of work. so I admire anyone who can give blood. But i can always give my prayers and moral support.

That is indeed a testament to friendship and how much people think of him. He's still in my prayers.

Good for you. I just drove by our blood donation place the other day and thought I need to stop in and give blood myself. My veins are so small and hard to get blood out of, though. I have to drink tons of water before I go. My DD does every month. My hubby used to til he had to start taking pills for diabetes. But I am going to do it, too. There is no reason why I shouldn't.
