Well, we just got home from Memphis! He's alot better, but has a long road ahead. We'll just have to take it a day at a time and see what happens. We'll call doctors in the morning and try to get him in to his endocrinologist asap and see what he can do with diabetes meds.

So it's like this is a new chapter in our lives and things will be so much different now. It's all just a little strange right now to me. And I haven't really thought about this and what I'd do when this time came. I guess I better start.

Thank you all so much for the prayers. He's not out of the woods yet and will need lots more.

Another little update on the hubby. We went to his endocrinologist today. Put him on a stronger antibiotic and insulin. Just while he's healing. Like a little extra insurance, the doc said. he better be right. But his ACT count was 7.1 which considering what he's been through is not that bad. So he's still on Metphorman, Actos,2 blood pressure meds, And the insulin, a low dose in morning and a little higher dose at bedtime. Plus antibiotics. Then back in 2 weeks. Doc said to stay away from the fast food. I have been feeding him really good so far. Blood sugar levels are anywhere from 95-200. He wants them to be at or near 100 at all times. So we'll see what happens. Oh, the nurse was so sweet and took him back in a room to lay down and get off his rear. Also gave us a sackful of the Actos and all the needles and the insulin pin! That will sure help being that this is the beginning of the year and deductables and all. All we had to get at the pharm. was the antibiotics which were just $6.50.

So all in all he's really doing pretty good so far. And we haven't killed each other! Hhhmmmm, this may just work out.

Thank you all for the continual prayers. he is doing so good. I am amazed at his progress so far. He went to his PC doc yesterday and they said he's doing great. No need for wound care specialists. He just went for a walk. His blood sugar levels are pretty good. I am feeding him good food. Lots of homegrown goodies. And organic.

I just made bread. So we're good there. I should not have to buy any food for a long time. We had the pigs butchered the week before, so I have 280 lbs of pork. Minus the pork chops and sausage we already ate.

So I am trying to keep him fed good and let him have all the rest he needs. He should be good to go in a month or so. Thanks again for all those good thoughts and prayers.

Kris,
I will be praying for you and your dear hubby as you turn this next page in your chapters of life. What awesome comfort, we can take knowing that God has already written our ending, but insists we read every single page before we can what He has for us! Praying for healing, smooth adjustments, and his precious blessings for you both!!
hugs

Life should NOT be a jounrey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming. "WOOHOO, what a ride!"

I just turned the computer on and it's actually going pretty fast right now! I saw all your wonderful replies and am so thankful for you all here. It is so nice to be able to come to a place where there are so many caring women, many who have or are going through the same things.

Elaine, if you are diabetic, please don't let things go too long without getting checked out. It takes diabetics so much longer to get over simple things that someone else can get over with no problems. Please be careful and don't take things for granted.

I know it will take a lot of changes for us in the next few months. I have no idea what to expect. I am so used to him being gone for long periods and to have him around will take some adjustment. It will be wonderful, though. Because I almost lost him. It was that close. And really, anytime he goes out on the road, there is that possibility that he might not come home. It's a rough world out there. So I am so grateful all this was caught in time. And he was at a place where he could get help fast. God was with him for sure.

Julia, you are so right about wanting to know, to see the end, to get some kind of sign that everything will be ok and to plan for whatever will be. I do find myself resenting this disease that could take my husbands life sooner or later and I am not ready for that. I am always waiting for something. But I need to know that there is nothing I can do to make it go away. I have to learn to live with this cloud over us and make the best of what we do have together. We have had 30 really great years together and I hope we have many more, regardless of how they may be. BTW, I loved your beautiful journal pieces in the new mag. And the story. I cannot imagine what you go through every day. But you handle it. Your children are all so special, but that little Aria is amazing! I think about her often.

Thank you all for just being here for me. Kris

Kristin, I'm glad to hear you all are home and that he's doing better. Diabetes can be scary at times, I have it too. I'm keeping you all in my prayers.

Kristin, I just picked up this thread. I'm afraid I don't know what has happened to your husband. Whatever it is, it sounds long and full of change. I know this well and I appreciate your comment of taking it one day at a time. I know for awhile I told myself that. It was something my head liked to say but my heart often struggled with it. My heart wanted to know....my heart wanted to see the end in sight....my heart wanted to be able to plan....my heart resented the changes forced upon us. I've discovered that all of it is fine and worth experiencing as opposed to being trying to shove it aside as if it doesn't matter.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that this place, this forum, these farmgirls have been such an enormous support for me offering me a place to come and vent and share my feelings when that's all I wanted or could do. We're here for you...keeping you close and in our thoughts. Many Blessings, ~julia

Kristin, I am very glad you are both back home. And as Rene says you will find your way around to find what "normal" will be for you now. Because what normal use to be is out the window and now you are changing and finding out what it will be now. Hugs girl and yes, will keep praying here......
