Hi Girls!
I got an email from Lainey this afternoon and she asked if you all would pray for her Mom. Betty is back in ICU and having what seems to be internal bleeding. They have done 4 blood transfusions and from what I gathered from the email, none of the blood is staying where they want it to go. It's leaking out somewhere. She is due to have an upper endoscopy to see if there is something going on up there and where the blood is actually going. The doctors in a not so loving way have told them that Betty is nearing her time here and will soon be going home with her Saviour.
I know that she and her parents would be most grateful for your prayers.
If you would like, email me and I will forward you her email so you will know how to better pray. I am sure too, that they would appreciate any cards or words of encouragement you might like to send along. Email me for her address if you would like it. :)

hugs and prayers,
Jessie

I'm so blessed to have 'sisters' like you all. Thank you so much for the kind words and as always the prayers. I know they help so much. (((Hugs)))

I wanted to update you all on mom. All day yesterday mom would respond with nodding yes or no to questions. She seemed really weak and I wondered if she would speak much when she was able. They took the respirator out yesterday evening and mom starting talking immediately. She remembered everything that happened yesterday morning and told us about it in great detail. She was in great spirits last night and is still this morning. Her nurse told me that my mom was so 'perky' and one of the sweetest patients she's had in a while. I know my mom loves to chat with all the staff and find out their life's story. Today is a good day and I'm going to rejoice and savor the good days and try to be stronger and more comforting in the not so good days.

prayers and warm wishes from Texas, too. My mom is 80 years old and I have to remind my siblings that it is such a blessing to have her around whether she is being "mom" or not. Treasure these days and focus on good memories...make many of them... give her an extra hug today!

Lainey, hugs and hugs and hugs my dear. Will continue praying and I know you are treasuring the time with your mama.
Will continue to pray for you and your family. Being shook up with all that has happened is normal, it may not seem like it, but it is. It makes your adrenaline go like crazy. Thankful that you are given some more time to spend with her.

Lainey, you are blessed to be able to spend time with you mama still. You are all in my prayers and hoping that you all are taking care of yourselves. Having a very ill family member is so hard and one tends to over look the self. *hugs* I hope that your mother is as well as she can be and that her time with all of you is long.

Peace and good wishes to all of you

Lainey, it sounds like your mom is in good hands and they are doing everything they can for her. Your mama raised a wonderful girl...even if she couldn't hear you, she knows you're there for her. I am praying for you both today.

Thanks again for the prayers for my mama. You all mean so much to me. Early this morning my mom 'coded' (the word the nurses used). I believe that means her heart stopped and she was unresponsive. They were able to get her pulse back without shocking her heart but it was very weak for a while. They put her on a ventilator and took her back to the ICU. By the time I got to the hospital her heart rate was steady at 40. I walked over to her and she recognized me and responded to what I asked. She was able to follow commands so I don't think she had a stroke. They were worried she might of had a heart attack, but the tests show that probably wasn't the case. They've determined that her blood sugar level bottomed out and caused the problems. I heard at one point it was 38 and possibly lower. They got her to 50, then the last time they checked it when I was there it was 61. Her blood pressure was low as well. They gave her dopamine and it returned her levels to normal. They will probably be able to remove the ventilator later on today, at least the doctor thinks so.

This was a very close call. And on the drive to the hospital all I could think of was if Mom would still be with us when I got there. I agree with you all that each moment is precious and I'm going to take every opportunity to let Mom know how much I love her. I'm sorry if I sound a bit scattered but I'm still really shook up. The director of nurses came to Mom's room and told us that Mom will be alright.

If it wouldn't be too much please continue to remember my mom in your prayers and thoughts. Thank you all so much.

Lainey - I second what Mary Jane said. Sometimes you get the opportunity for an aha moment about what a gift our life and relationships are, that in itself is a gift.

Lainey, I am glad to hear your Mom feels much better. It must make you so happy to see her talking and enjoying herself again. Honey, just live each day one day at a time and enjoy every second you have together. All anyone has is today. We don't know what may happen to any of us tomorrow, and why worry about it. It is a waste of good time.

Hugs, Mary Jane

Glad she's feeling chatty and that although the doc wasn't so tactful, sometimes the 'straight talk' does remind us that we should treasure every moment with each other. Tell your mom I've been praying for her and hope she has a great day today. You too, girl.

Jessie, thanks so much for this post. And thanks to you all for your kind words and thoughts and prayers for my mom and our family. I'm happy to let you know that my mom went out of ICU last night and is in a regular room at the hospital now. She had been in ICU since Saturday before last. She had developed atrial fibullation (sp) in the hospital and they thought they might have to 'shock' her heart back into sinus rhythm but yesterday it corrected into the right rhythm with some new medication they tried. They still don't know where the blood is going and she's had to have 9 transfusions or 9 bags of blood since she's been in the hospital.

When I left her last night Mom was in good spirits and talking up a storm. The doctors had a giggle when they visited her room last night. One was trying to listen to her heart and mom wanted to know how they were and how their day was. She was talking the whole time. A few days in the ICU Mom didn't feel like talking much, she was really weak. So I'm seeing her talking and interest in others as a good sign. All through this journey she's never been really depressed, she's never said 'Why me?'. She's told me several times that she's not afraid of the next step and that she is ready and for me not to worry. She has the best nature and is one of the most positive people I know.

That Saturday when she was admitted to the hospital the ER doctor took my dad and I aside and told us that this year would be horrible for my family and to prepare ourselves because he believed that this was the beginning of the end. He told us that a person that had so many things wrong with them just couldn't hold on much longer. I don't know what I think about that but each day that I have with my mom is a blessing. I guess I don't need to tell you all how much I love and respect my mom. She is truly my best friend.

Thanks for the update, Jessie. I've got her address from the Christmas card list. I'm so sorry for this news. I'll keep them in my thoughts and prayers. Why can't all doctors have the bedside manner of Dr. Oz? Just a little comfort and kindness go such a long way.

E-mailing you now. Doctors can be so clueless sometimes! Don't they have a "Delivering the News 101" class or something? If not, they should! They don't all have the gift.
