Ok Farm Gals! I need a band of prayer warriors to surround me daily with prayers. I have 150 lbs to lose and I need to do it now before my health fails me worse than the aches and pains I have now. I have developed plantars faciitis in my left foot and a nasty ankle that swells a lot- walking with a limp from the PF doesn't help and neither does having nothing but uneven terrain to walk on. I also have bursitis in my right knee. I am 39 and have lots of littles who need a mama to run around with them, take them to the park, go hiking etc... I can't do this in my current condition.
Plus in a year or so when things are much better I would love to have another little one but right now due to the stress of life and being overweight I have very irregular cycles- like once every 2 to 3 months.
I need to get the weight off. We have decided that we want to go back to the McDougall program. It is a lowfat vegan program. Jeff has high blood pressure and probably high cholesterol as it runs in his family- even his healthy younger sister has it. He also has 50 lbs to lose. The whole family will be eating this way with the growing boys eating more fat than the rest of us- they can have nuts, seeds and nut butters.
I have not been able to stick to a diet for longer than a few weeks for 14.5 years! The stress with hubby's drinking was more than I could deal with and though I wanted to lose weight I just couldn't stick to it. Hubby is sober and now realizes that he had no right to put me down about my weight problem. He understands that he wouldn't be sober today if I had teased and tormented him about his drinking problem or if I hadn't encouraged him. He seems to be on board in encouraging me.
whether or not he sticks to it is another story- BUT I can't get discouraged by his words anymore. I have to do this for me no matter what anyone says to me. No matter what discouragement comes my way.
So I would greatly appreciate your prayers that I would have the self confidence and strength that only God can give me to stick with it this time and get healthy once and for all!
Thank you!

Blessings, Debra

We love our morning hikes. We had to miss it yesterday due to going out of state for the day and it was sorely missed. I had taco salad at the inlaws and chips with guac and cake... so I will be watching my calories the next few days. lots of yogurt and turkey burger for me.. :-)

Good for you Debra! Walking is the best exercise in the world, at least for me! It's smart not to deny yourself something you want to eat, that can cause serious binging when your will gives out.

Keep going! I'm sure you look & feel like a million!

thanks all. I feel good. I am down 30 lbs, have dropped a couple of sizes, and a bra size- and cup size. We walk 1 hour 45 minutes in the morning- this gives us over 5 miles and over 10,000 steps to start our day with. I am not eating anything different- but I watch my calories but if I want it, I have it and work harder to work it off- or cut back on calories the next day.
So far this is working for me. The greatest reward.. today we went to CA to visit the inlaws. We went by our old property managers office. The receptionist didn't recognize me at first- then she says "Oh my goodness, you have lost a ton of weight! Back up, let me get a good look at you!" That made my day!

Kristin,
thank you! I am feeling good too. I have a new pair of jeans that back in the end of June fit me but when I sat down were very tight through the legs and stomach- making them very uncomfortable. Now they are loose and comfy when sitting.
I am walking 5-10 miles a day now.
thank you all for your continued prayers.

Debra,
I'm so proud of you. Losing weight is not easy and you have lost 14 lbs. Think how much 14 pounds of hamburger would weigh if you held it in your arms. Don't get discouraged about gaining with exercise. You just may have gained extra muscle which will burn the fat quicker now that you have it. I have always battled with my weight and am currently working on the Eat for Health plan by Dr. Joel Fuhrman which sounds really similar to your plan. When I read his books I find it much easier to follow along with the food plan. He is big on information and helps you to understand what our body needs and the benefits of healthy eating. The first book I read was Eat to Live and now I am working on Eat for Health which seems a bit easier to follow and stick to. If you're close to a library or bookmobile and can find time to read I think you would enjoy his information. Keep up the good work! You are awesome! I saw your goal on another post and had to find you to tell you good job. Take each day one day at a time and you will get there. If you have a not so good day don't be hard on yourself. You are not alone.
I wish you well and keep up the good work!

As you can see my weight has gone up. It is a mystery. I am faithfully walking everyday. at least 3 miles of walking outside around my block (which is uneven terrain). When I started this journey on 8-24 I started on the McDougall program and lost 15 lbs. Then I saw the first biggest loser episode. I decided then and there that I was going to get active and I was going to eat normal food but watch my calories. So I didn't consume more than 1500 calories a day- somedays more then I walked more. For 2 weeks I didn't lose a pound. Quite discouraging. But I kept at it. Then this week I gained 10 lbs! yes you heard me right! 10 lbs. Quite discouraging indeed. That was it. I decided to go back on the McDougall plan (lowfat vegan diet with some higher fat vegan foods on occasion). After 1 day I am back down 4 lbs. I felt great yesterday.. Even noticed that by the time I got to dinner I was genuinely hungry and the same just before bed.. so my body was burning what I ate- a good thing.
So that is where it is. I am still doing good. I love walking. A matter of fact I need to get out there now before our day starts..
have a great day!

Blessings, Debra

Debra, Keep with it, I'm praying for you. I have struggled with this for 38 years, it isn't easy. I finally had gb 5 years ago and wish I could have had it 35 years ago...my life is so much better. Keep moving, you will get there!

Terri, I do appreciate the prayers. The biggest thing I need prayers for right now is that I keep active. I am walking over 10000 steps a day. About 60 minutes of aerobic walking. And it isn't easy here. I am going up and down little hills and walking in soft sand for a good part of it. But I know I need to keep walking in order to be a healthy and fit person.

Debi, great job!! I want this to be forever so I have learned that I can't deprive myself- if I want pizza I just have to get out there and move more.
I grew up with not good examples on good eating habits- or an example on living an active lifestyle. My parents still struggle. It kills me to see my mom- who over 2 years got her weight off. had lyposuction to get the last bit off of her upper outer thighs (where she carries her excess weight) and now a good 50 lbs are back and she is struggling to get it back off.
Thank you for continuing to pray for me. I will be praying for you too!

Kris, thank you. My family has been great. very supportive- getting out there and walking with me- the kiddos love it. hubby goes with in the evening so I get out twice a day.
One day I just woke up and realized that I didn't want to be remembered as a lazy, inactive mama. I want my kids to have fun with me. So it has become a family affair.
hubby has been supportive getting me whatever I need (like the punching back- and we have had fun with it). next on the list is a bodybugg (the armband that the biggest loser contestants wear) it measures incredibly accurately all of your activity and then you enter onto their website all of the food you consumed. it will show you if you were active enough to be in a calorie deficit if so then you will lose weight.
and hubby has been helping me to not be so stressed about the weight not coming off as fast as I would like- just encouraging me to keep doing what I am doing and the weight will just come off when it is time.
thank you again for praying for me and I will be praying for you too.

Blessings, Debra

Hey, Debra, I've been reading about your great progress this last month! You've come a long way!! You even sound like a different person. Just doing the things you've been doing and not worrying so much about the weight coming off fast and just getting out there moving is great!! You should be very proudof youself. I am very impressed at your progress. You have not given up. That is the main thing. And lots and lots of praying doesn't hurt either.

Keep up the good work!! It's good that your family is for this, too. Sounds like everyone is doing this with you.

I'll be keeping ya'll in my prayers. And I need to be doing what your doing, too.

Kris
