Went to the ER yesterday and have been diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome and the early stages of Degenerated Disc Disease. UGhh. The Piriformis can be treated with stratching and meds, but the later is something I will be livng with.

I am too young for all of this! I guess I just want to be pain free for a little while - been dealing with the pain in my lower back for 9 months now.

I guess I'm just needing some prayers and healing thoughts...Been a rough couple weeks for me.

I'm calling the doctor tomorrow for a follow up. I'll need a referal to a chiropractor for my insurance to cover it.

Thanks to all of the wonderful ladies here for the kind words, advice, and prayers. I'll get through this....How can I not? I have all of you and God looking out for me!!

I'm going to recommend a chiropractor, too. I know there's a lot of different opinions about chiropractic care, but it gave me a lot back after I had a really bad horseback riding accident. The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, since all the physical signs of the accident were supposed to go away within six months after it happened. I was still in a large amount of pain and discomfort long after that time frame, getting bad headaches, noise sensitivity, neck pain, pinched nerves, etc. The doctors wanted to do an MRI, to see if there had been some sort of damage to my brain. MRIs happen to be on the expensive side, lol, so we decided to go with a friend's recommendation and try a chiropractor first. Within a few moments of being in the office, he had diagnosed what was wrong, and had an action plan to help my spine heal.

The actual chiropractic adjustments are gentle and felt good, even with my spine being as messed up as it was. I'd definitely give it a try, it could help manage and lessen the symptoms for you!! :)

Sending prayers your way!

Jehovah Rophe, I ask you to place your healing hands on Tammy. Bless her with your healing and comfort as she is going through these back issues. Cover her with your mercy as you guide the medical professionals in the way to best help this situation. You are a healer and I thank you for that blessing!

Tammy, I hope that you are doing well this weekend. Please keep us updated on how you are doing!

Tammy, I know how much pain is debilitating. I sure hope the exercises and stretching work to relieve the one thing. I hope you can find a pain medicine that will ease the rest for you so you can feel happy and active once more. I said a prayer for finding the best plan that will work for you.

Thank you so much everyone for the prayers and love! I am taking meds right now and the ER doctor recommended a chiropractor. When I go see my doctor for a follow up, I will ask him about it. I have also been doing some stretching exercises to help open the muscle in my lower back that is squeezing my sciatic nerve. The degenerating disc disease is something that I am not looking forward to. My mom has it and she has chronic pain. Only time will tell...

Sherry - I didn't know that you were a certified massage therapist!! Girl, I need to hire you! I have a one hour massage as a gift from my oldest daughter and I am scheduling the appt. For it as soon as I can tolerate someone pushing on my lower back. Hopefully by Monday I ca make the call. So, anytime you need to practice you massage therapy, let me know...lol I'll be glad to volunteer!!

Tammy I'm so sorry to hear the diagnosis..
I have Degenerative Disk Disease too.. It can be very dibilitating
& outright unbearable at times.. I know.. Years of pain & suffereing for me.. But you just learn to get through the rough days.. & know your limitations.. The very worst for me is when a pinched nerve occurs.. The back pain is bad.. but the nerve pain can be something i thouight i'd never have know pain like until then!.. If you experience anything like this ask your Dr. if a Drug called Nuerontin may be something they feel is right for you.. It's a nerve blocker.. so it doesn't fix anything.. but it does block the pain.. which will allow you to relax.. so that the physical therapy may work in order to move that pinched nerve out of the way.. i hope this helps some for you.. please e-mail me if you ever want to.. I'm so much better now.. & up & about.. but was in my wheelchair for over a year at one point! So I really know how rough this can be.. The best thing for you has to be to keep eating healthy.. Try to stay as active, relaxed & flexible as possible with out over doing things.. Slow easy stretches & long slow movements to ease your back with out straining it.. to keep yourself limber & not become stiff..
If you already do Yoga.. this is great.. but in easy moderation..

Take care of yourself Sweetie!

lots of love to you..

Kathie..

Sorry to hear that Tammy. I know it's tough to deal with. Chuck's been dealing with it for years and its frustrating. I do hope you get some relief.

On the upside, you have just met a certified massage therapist that may have one or two tricks up her sleeve, such as hot and cold therapies and/or passive stretching techniques that may help. And since she's in your chapter, I'm sure she can bring them with her the next time.

Tammy, I hope you feel better soon. Is there anything the Dr. is planning to do to help you with your back problem? My prayers are with you and I'm sending good thoughts your way.

You have my thoughts and prayers with you. I also have a suggestion. My dh had an injury to his back last year, a disk extruded, and he has 3 others compressed. He went to a chiropractor who works with his on a decompression table. They also worked with us on the financial end of it by charging a flat rate a month so he could go in every day for almost a year. He has since been able to heal enough that he is not in much pain and the numbness in his leg is almost completely gone. It is not exactly the same as degeneration, but the decompression factor may really help with the pain level you are experiencing.
