Posted - May 13 2008 : 08:51:21 AM Good Day to everyone!
I know I am new here and don't know many of you, but I already feel a kinship and love from everyone here. I am hoping it is not out of place to make this request, but I feel the need for some support. So, I am asking for some prayers and good thoughts to come the way of my family. My mother, who is 81 years old, was taken to the hospital on Saturday evening in congestive heart failure. When I talked to her on Sunday and Monday, she was feeling much better; however, she needed to have a colonoscopy. That procedure was performed early this morning and the doctor found a large tumor and says it doesn't look good and is doing more tests. She is going to have to have surgery, no matter what. My mother lives in Billings, Montana, but I live in Phoenix,Arizona. I have been making plans to move there within the next 6 months and the only reason I haven't yet is because I just had some major surgery and can't make the move quite yet, but maybe it will be too late.
I do know it could be her time to go (I hope not, though), but for some reason when it is one's mother, it just is such a loss. We all have only one natural birth mother and over the last few years, I have been able to mend a lot of fences with her and become quite close to her. And, I feel it is my responsibility to be the caregiver and be there by her side. I plan on making the trip via car as soon as I find out how bad things are (and, maybe with everyone's prayers, they won't be all that bad), but money is super tight since I have been on disability from work. So, the plan is to put some things on EBay and try to sell whatever I can (and, I have a lot of stuff), or check with some local shops on some of the antique and vintage jewelry I own, but time is of the essence, I believe. I just know that God is here for me and will make sure everything works out the way it is supposed to work out. It is in His hands, for sure.
Thank you so much for any and all prayers and positive thoughts. They are so much appreciated!
Have a wonderful day to everyone!

Posted - May 26 2008 : 12:48:02 PM Good Day to everyone! I thought I would let you all know that I am back from Montana and being with Mom while she was/is hospitalized and underwent colon surgery. She is still in the hospital but improving daily. Thank you all so much for your prayers and thoughts while I have been gone. This is the first I have been on the computer for over a week. Mom did have colon cancer and they cut out about 6 inches of her intestines, but the doctor says they got all of the cancer. It was a tumor about the size of a golf ball and it had actually gone into the lymphs, but he says he can see no more cancer in her. Yippee!! We were all (my brothers and sisters) happy to hear that news. She still has a way to go, but she is 81 years old and this is the first major surgery she has ever had, other than a hysterectomy 40 years ago and cataract surgery for her eyes, so, this was major. We thought we had lost her the day after the surgery because she had a reaction to the morphine in conjunction with the anesthetic and she went into a very deep sleep that they could not get her out of. It was touch and go.
I will be moving to Montana within the next 3 months to become her primary caregiver and live with her. I have been off work, now here in Arizona, for 3 months after having my right foot re-built with 3 fusions and a neuorma (swollen and inflamed nerve) removed, so I have to go back to work for a period of time to take care of insurance and things like that. But, the sooner I can get back to Montana, the better.
Sorry this is so long. I so appreciate all of you and it looks like I received some very exciting items from MaryJanesFarm in the mail while I was away. What a nice welcome home gift! I will write on another forum about that once I get a chance to look it all over and drool over it.
Have a wonderful day and it is GREAT to be back!

Posted - May 13 2008 : 4:07:58 PM Thank you everyone for your sweet thoughts and for the prayers that you are saying for mom and myself. It is so appreciated. You are all the BEST! I still have not heard anything, so I guess, as the old saying goes, "no news is good news", right? But, I am here waiting right by the phone for any changes. Thanks, again! This means a lot to me and to mom, too, even if she isn't aware of it right now. Smiles (sort of) and Hugs! GiGi

Posted - May 13 2008 : 09:09:02 AM Agreed...I'll be thinking of you Gayle and your mom. Where there is a will, there is a way--I will be praying that you can scrape together some funds to at least get yourself to Billings. After that, let the wind blow whichever way it does. If it feels important for you to go to her, then it is.
