Hi, Ladies. I had my stent changed a couple weeks ago. Since then, I have been really uncomfortbale which moved into unable to walk right due to pain. I kept thinking it was related to the stent, but I had an xray, and it is in the proper position.

So, I went to see the pain specialist as this is how bad it has gotten. I was completely off pain medicine and walking and feeling so good befoe this procedure. He determined that there is a nerve by the upper pelvis that runs through the groin and into the thigh that has been traumatized by positioning for the procedure. It was over stretched, and now I can't get it to fully stretch to walk. I am bent over as that is how far I can go. I can sit fine and sleep fine with knee bent.

He told me it can heal and take anywhere from a month or longer. I have tried three different pain medicines to no avail. I can not take ibuprofen due to being on cumiden (blood thinner). He gave a prescription for a nerve medicine that has been used for fibromyalgia patients. I just did not want to take medicine round the clock. I was hoping to just take one pill with lunch and be all right for walking or yard work in the afternoon.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am trying St. John's wort internally and was thinking of getting the oil to rub externally as well. The reiki shows that everything is twisted or so inside. Also, there is lots of scar tissue. I figured that as radiation caused fibrosis of tissue and the possibility of adhesions. I think the scarring from the radiation made my position too much on the nerve-no flexibility there. I was fine previously for the first stent placement, but I had only had a few days radiation at that time.

The original pain nmedicines just do not touch it. I am allergic to morphine and those medicines, but I am almost willing to try it once mroe with an anti-nausea to see if I can get relief withut being loopy.

This is really discouraging. I have been feeling stronger every day, feeling confident about Avastin and just enjoyig the walks when the weather was good. I do so LOVE walking outside and a bit of gardening. Thank God I can still sit to sew.

Ok ,any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Thank you, ladies, for all the info. I am actually feeling better. I can walk more normally once more. I cut back to 2 nuerontin in the morning, one in afternoon and one before bed. Tomorrow I am going to try going back to one pill in morning as well.

My husband says I am walking better as he can see me on our walks. I was able to walk the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park with my family. This was such a joy. It was also awesome weather to do it all in.

Oh, I'm so glad you are doing better....Did you do the ultrasound? It is wonderful! Just make sure it's not turned up too high or it over stimulates the area and will make it worse....a little is much better and feels oh so good!!

I have two spots in my back that go out from time to time and the ultrasound along with adjustment is just what I need.

You are in my prayers every day...hoping you have a good camping trip!

Ahhh, I have the generic form of neurontin.

I have been so thirsty, and I wondered if it was the change in weather or what. Now I know it is the medication. I don't remember reading that as a side effect, but I am thankful for your words of reassurance about it.

I am on a pretty big dose, two pills, three times a day.

Yup, it is much better than the pain medication. I have not had to take it since the increase.

Also, amazingly enough, I can walk a bit better and stretch my leg a bit straighter. So, the nerve must be getting a bit better as well. I am so relieved as I want to know this will improve with time. I amvery grateful for this bit of positive improvement.

I'm on a hefty dose of Neurontin for neurological issues from my accident and it helps a lot, sorry I didn't think of it. It is also called Gabapentin and you can get it generic. Good stuff, doesn't give you bad medicine head or anything, but it tends to make me thirstier. I hope that it helps a lot with the pain and trauma

I was on neurontin for a very short while after having shingles for some time. The pain was bad and it seems that was the only thing that actually helped with the pain, and it didn't make me feel 'dopey' or fuzzy. Clare I'm very glad that you are feeling better.

Clare, I'm so glad to hear you are getting some relief. I think the neurontin takes a few days to kick in. My doctor increased mine to five pills, 2 in the morning, one midday and one in the evening. it has been a big help to me.
relaxing is always hard to do when you are dealing with illness, and i think, as mothers we are always on alert, even when everything is fine.
Thanks for sending out those quiot blocks, i love your blue and white one. Be very good to yourself.....Karin

Thank you, Kathie and Karin. I am on Nuertin for the nerve pain. It is the nerve medicine he gave me. I went on it Monday and called Thursday as I still had so much pain. He doubled my dose and I am doing so much better now. He also gave me a different pain medicine I can take if the pain gets bad enough. So far, the nerve medicine is working, but I have the pain medicine for rough times.

I still need a little break each afternoon in the recliner. I can feel the nerve relax. One day I did too much, and the muscles starting cramping and hurting so bad. I have learned from that!!

Life is much better, and I am looking forward to going camping next weekend. And maybe this will all heal itself in a month or so.

Clare, Goodness you are being tested. it is so hard to cope with pain, I have taken Neurontin for fibromyalgia and fasciaitis for a couple of years, and it does help . I always use arnica montana for muscle pain. Not everyone considers homeopathy, but it is certainly an option. I always have arnica and Rescue Remedy right where I can get my hands on them. Rescue Remedy is a floral essence remedy for anxiety or upset. You put six drops in a glass of water and it tastes like hay, but it is helpful.
It is so hard to deal with pain on top of everything else. You take good care of yourself .....Karin

Clare if you continue to Still have the nerve pain..
& they have not yet tried this..
Ask your Dr. about Nuerontin.. I was on this for about 2 years or so..
I have degenerative Disk Disease.. & have considerable nerve damage..
I can funtion with just the "normal" everyday pain that I have ..
But when i have a pinched nerve that kicks in.. which sounds like what happened with you.. it's just unbearable at times..
& when my Dr. finally put me on the Nuerontin.. It was Such a relief!
I could walk on my own.. I was out of the Wheelchair! I could Now finally funtion ON My OWN!! For the first time in months!! All over a single pill that i was taking everyday!!

It's not a pain pill.. & it's not a permanent fix.. It's a nerve blocker.. So really that pain is still there.. your just not feeling it..
The hope is that your body will relax enough to let that nerve go lax so that it settele back to where it should be.. I was in physical therapy to.. Mine did not.. i had to eventually have back surgery.. but I've had 3 already anyway..
But really what a relief this was..
So definatly.. As your Dr. if the Nuerontin is even an option for you!
you never know...

Love ya sweetie!

Hi, Ladies. I have taken many of your suggestions. I have been to the chiropractor twice now. It has definitely helped. I think my back is trying to compensate for not walking completely upright. I am trying ice to see if that helps. I am soaking each night in a warm epsom bath. Also, each afternoon I sit in the recliner to give my muscles a break.

Tomorrow I will call the pain specialist to discuss medicines. I started the nerve medicine, but I do not see any improvement yet. He said it will take a few days and today is only the second day. The chiropractor suggested ultrasound in the groin area, so I need to ask him if that would be OK. Tomorrow I am going for shiatsu and hope he does some moxa to see if that will improve the area.

And maybe just time will help. It has just been a bit discouraging. I want some pain medicine to work in time for our first camping weekend coming up the 24th.

Thank you all for the encouragement.

Is there a nerve relaxant that you could try? I don't know if it would help but it might be worth asking about. Something to make the nerve stop sending pain signals to your brain? I have had nerve pain and know how wretched it is. So you have my complete sympathy and well wishes. Have you tried heat or cold on the pain?
Just trying to think of any ol' thing that might help

Hugs

Clare,

I would go to my Chiropractor and have them adjust your lower back, hips and pelvic. You may need to go every other day until some relief starts taking place. I happen to be fortunate and have one that is geared towards natural meds and is also a bodybuilder so he knows about so many types of injuries with the muscles and nerves.

I really think a Chiropractor could help this....Let me know what you find out..

Prayers continue...
