Take care and thank you again,

Greg

My name is Greg and Maynard Arnett is my stepfather. I noticed folks on your site like his dolls. He's darn proud of them and was a skillful man.

Anyway, he's dying from lymphoma. He battled it for over a year, but he's resigned himself to the inevitable. He's under hospice care and they are giving him morphine. His lymph nodes are so swollen that he can hardly breath. They give him a couple of weeks or less.

Anyway, Mom's hurting a lot and could sure use some moral support during these last days.

I'm just talking about a note in passing in e-mail about how much ya'll have enjoyed his dolls over the years. Mom would like that. She's falling to pieces over this and a kind word would sure help her out. [Please forward your letters to me at alee@maryjanesfarm.org and I will pass them on promptly]

Thanks a bunch,
Greg

I met Stacee Droit (Maynard's daughter) at the wonderful SIMPLE GOODS show last autumn. what a sweetie pie she is! i was very sorry to hear of her dad's passing. below is a little about the Arnett's from her web-site... friend kathy from sugarbucket antiques and i plan a trip there soon! xo, frannie

=============================

In 1976 my mom and dad (Carolyn and Maynard Arnett) began what is now Arnetts Country Store. In the little Southern Illinois town of West Frankfort, my dad was a coal miner and my mom worked in the home making handmade items for our (Shop in the Garage) as it were. My brother Darren and I would help when we could and thus began our business. I can still remember my mom staying up all hours of the night making santa pull toys and standing & sitting santas for her shop. When my dad was home he and Darren would hand carve doll faces, santa and snowman faces from old blocks of wood. I would help mom sew, paint, clean up, or anything else that needed to be done. It was our way of life and I grew up in that warm country atmosphere. Today, we strive to maintain that country feeling in all that
we do. After all it is my heritage! Stacee

My prayers go out to his family - what a hard time for them. How wonderful that he used his talents to make so many folks happy.

I did not know about his dolls, but just reading through these posts, his light shines through.

This is very sad, I'm sorry that such disease still harms our world. I wish that I had more then kind words to ease his and her suffering. My deepest sympathy goes to Mr.Annett and his family. I hope that his suffering is brief and merciful.

I hate to hear of his suffering, and hers. So sad when talent leaves this earth, but at least there is a legacy left behind. Aunt Jenny, how lucky you are to have a part of it!

Alee, I will send you my letter via email at the forum.

Oh my!! I have a set of his dolls (Goldie and Rolla) in my living room..they were a gift from a farmgirl a couple years ago and I am in love with them...Here is a picture of them on my bed when I first got them. I will type up a note and forward it to ya later tonight after my house quiets down Alee..how sad to hear about this talented man being so close to death. Everyone comments on my dolls..they are so unique and loveable!! They are for sure in my top ten things!! They are also in this picture of my son at Christmas.
