I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words of love and support. I was really just kidding when I said I thought we were cursed. Really I am so very thankful that our little family is okay and no one got hurt much. I feel blessed for every day that we are all here together whole and healthy. It is so much more than others can say and this Christmas I will be feeling extra love to the world because of our experiences this winter.

So here's and Update:

I'm Fine and the car is in the shop getting a "face lift" hehehe. I have a beautiful rental car until I get mine back, but as much as it is pretty and new I miss my old 8 year old car. How funny is that?

Doug has been fighting dizziness since the accident so we took him back to the ER today. He had a cat scan and everything is clear, thank Goodness! They think he has a minor concussion that wasn't diagnosed on Saturday. He works around VERY sharp knives and bone saws so he will have to be moved to a different department at work. The doctor said the dizziness could last a month. But over all he is doing better!

So thanks for all your Hogs and Quiches! We all appreciate so very much!

First of all- Everyone is fine. Doug is a little bruised and my car needs repaired, but we are all okay.

Yesterday my car got stuck in the snow. I was trying to chip the ice off from around my tires so I could put my chains on and didn't see a friend get into his truck to come help tow me. His truck lost all traction and he slid down the hill. Luckily he had the presence of mind to honk and I jumped out of the way. It was a pretty close call. My hand brushed his bumper as I jumped out of the way. Instead all that happened was he smashed up the front end of my car. It could have been so much worse.

Then today, Doug was going to CDA with some friends for a games tournament. They hit a patch of black ice just out of Tensed, ID. THe driver over corrected and then over corrected again. They ended up in the opposite lane and got into a head on collision with the trunk of their car to the front of a pick up truck. If Doug had been sitting on the other side he would be paralyzed if not dead. He is just really really sore. The driver had to be intubated on the way to the hospital and has a grade 3 concusion. And our other friend has a severly sprained shoulder and a 3 inch laceration on his head. The people in the truck are okay.

Lets all hope that our bad luck DOESN'T come in threes this time around!!

Oh my gosh, Alee! I'm so glad you all are ok. What a scary week for you! How is Doug's head, now? You guys were so fortunate. I think God gives us little nudges every now and then just to remind us of what is most important. I'm so glad you and Doug are fine.

Hey Alee,

I'm so glad you and Doug and your other friends are going to be alright. It's so dangerous with all the snow and ice. Please keep us posted about the other guys that were hurt.

You be careful!

It sounds like you both were blessed not to get seriously hurt! Hopefully life will be much calmer for all of you from now on. Be careful, have a safe & wonderful winter!

Merry Christmas!

Alee, I'm glad you both are okay.

This is exactly the reason I chose not to go to a retreat on Saturday in Newport...I just didn't want to get involved in anyone else's craziness and lateness and their bad driving. I kind of have a policy handed down from my dad that if it isn't absolutely necessary, don't go out in the bad weather. Like you say, if you're driving carefully and thoughtfully, you still are at the mercy of other people with an agenda.

Take care of yourselves! FarmGirl Hugs!

Doug thinks that if I had been driving it wouldn't have happened. I don't care how late we get someplace- as long as we get there. The girl that was driving was going too fast for conditions because they were running late. Such a silly mistake to make. Mother Nature is an incredible force and you have to respect her power. I think people forget that her power isn't just in erupting volcanoes, Hurricanes, floods and such. Simple things such as ice and rain can be just as deadly, if on a smaller scale.

I just hope that everyone who hears about the accident takes it to heart that arriving on time is not as important as arriving safely!!

And people laugh at me when I say I don't do snow days...or black ice.
Too scary to be on the roads if you don't absolutely have to. Last winter I didn't go pick Larry up at the airport in Reno when the weather was very bad; he wasn't too happy, but rented a 4wd pickup and came home. Should have just rented a room for the night, it would have been much cheaper I'm sure. I still had to drive in the next day to return the rental, but it wasn't 11 pm and nearly as icy. My shoulder muscles tense up just thinking about driving in bad weather. Even the safest driver in the world is at the mercy of everyone else on the road. Larry drives on ice/permafrost all year at work in Alaska, but I'm not gonna do it. Glad everyone is okay, hope the others in the car will recover well.

Sweet Alee, waht terrible experiences for you and your husband. It certainly shakes you up. Everyone is right you are very blessed, I can almost see God's hand getting you out of the way of that truck and protecting Doug and his friends. Doug must of been scared to pieces, he will be one sore fellow for a few days. What a joyous Christmas you will have, sometimes close calls like that just bring so much joy into your lives when they are over and you are safe.

Alee, I'm so glad you and Doug escaped serious injury or worse. I think you should all stay HOME! Like Mima, I think being in an area that doesn't get much snow and ice is a blessing (but a white Christmas would be so pretty

Alee- HUGS!!!!! I have chills just thinking about how much worse it could have been for all of you I am so relieved that everyone is OK. Your little family had protection from somewhere to be sure. Girls- I just met Doug the other day and he and Alee are adorable! You tell him I am thinking of him- maybe he should have some rescue remedy spray for a few days.
Warmly, Rebekka

Oh, I feel very blessed. I am so thankful that Doug was sitting where he was. He really thought he was going to die when he saw them spin into the other lane. He saw the truck bearing down on them until the spin put the trunk to the truck's bumper. He had time to brace but it was still a hard enough hit that he has lost time. He can't remember the next 10-20 minutes after that.
As far as me and the whole car accident bit- I am so very thankful. My friend was so scared. I feel so bad for him. He was just trying to help. We both agree that it could have been so much worse.

So even though we have had a scary couple of days, we are fine and Nora is fine so I am just so thanful.

Last night when Doug was telling me what happened, I about started crying. And all I could think was "This is silly! I can't cry NOW! He is FINE!! It could have been so much worse!" So I gave him extra gentle hugs and thanked the Universe that he is still here with me today!

Oh Dear God!!! I am so glad that you are both alive and ok. What a bunch of close calls. I hope that your friend with the concussion is going to be ok, that is pretty serious. This is being a bad year for ice with all of the thaw/freezes. You are both lucky and I'm glad.
I think your guardian angels need hazard pay this week :0

Alee - I know just how you feel. Mike got into an accident where he rolled our jeep over three times after hitting black ice. He came out of it with just a little scratch on his hand. I was so grateful that he was alright, but I didn't know how to feel when people told me we were so lucky. We WERE lucky that he was ok, but it's still a trumatic experience for the whole family and not something you want to go through for sure. Hopefully, you have gotten your "bad stuff" out of the way now and it'll be smooth sailing for a long time!!

Actually, Alee, I'm thinking you're all really blessed, my girl!!! And I'm so grateful. What sounds like awful luck, actually sounds better than the alternative!
Thinking about you all, and hoping Doug feels better, soon. Keep watching him, though, because those adrenalyn injuries sneak up on you.
