With All Hallow's Eve - All Saint's Day soon upon us, I was wondering if there is a special way that any of you honor the lives of those, both human and animal who have passed on before us.
I save a small amount of fur from all my animal friends who have passed over and I usually put it together in a mortar with some of my own hair and a few drops of rosemary (for rememberance) essential oil and some pet blessing oil that I used to have. I have an incantation of sorts that I wrote and I usually burn incense and a wide variety of candles including those with religious motifs such as guardian angels or the Virgin Mother. I also burn the mixture of our hair mixed together - some quiet time for meditation and pictures of my loved ones on my altar.
Last year I chose to listen to the recorded album of the last seance held for Houdini just for a change of pace. I simply adored Harry Houdini too!

I never feel that my beloved pets are far away. I keep pictures of them on the glass-fronted cabinet by my bed. My shepherds ashes are due to come back today, it will be sad for me.
When my sister died I got a small urn of ashes and at Thanksgiving (we always had dinner at her house) since it would be the first one without her, I took her with me and my husband to Cracker Barrel...She really loved angels so at Christmas time I usually put the tiny urn under a lighted tree angel. I know she is in a better place. When she died and I was in my garage/kennel, there were all these tiny balls of light coming towards me (the hair is now standing up on my arms) and they just kept coming towards me until they finally stopped. I felt a sense of peace and knew it was my sister, I was so excited that she decided to come and visit. Funny enough, my niece was here a week or so ago and said that my mother had appeared to my niece's friend the same way, with the tiny balls of light.
I may have already mentioned this on another post, but the vet I used to work for had to put his dog down when he operated and found she had cancer - I was out sick that day from work and knew nothing about it and had come in after hours for my check. I heard a dog crying in the back surgery room and I went to look - there were no animals in the entire building yet I heard the crying. His dog used to spend vacations with me at my house. Sometimes at the end of the night, we used to hear her nails clicking on the hallway floor. She used to sleep in the vet's office and only come out after all the clients had left for the night. Wierd but true.

I hate to admit that I never even thought about honoring my pets the way you described, Kathy.. How wonderful... I have the ashes of 2 of my beloved dogs that I've held on to for years. I think this will be the year I spread them..thank you for the inspiration. I love this time of year! Here's to a series of beautiful celebrations!

Hi,usually I include those I wish to remember past on or living in my prayers.
I totally understad you wanting to honor your pets who passed on.I plan on saving my pets hair, and a tooth(having the vet do that part)so someday I can clone my dog.I know sounds a bit out there.I also light candles and pray and meditate when I'm stressed.
