I got my Back to Eden (sorry not East of Eden...my brain..grrrr), drying herbs and a burpee gardening book on herbs in the mail today. I've been waiting on these, can hardly stand it till I can really dig into the Back to Eden. have any of you read it?

Blessings....
Sarah

"Back to Eden" is pretty old; it was old when I first read it thirty some years ago. I happily used it for stuff like upset stomachs and the minor complaints of everyday life, but for me it can't supplant western medical care for high risk things like cancer.

While there are some herbs I take on a daily basis, I find I often reach for homeopathic medicines before herbal ones. It's hard to find a lot of herbs that are standardized; and the herbs you take are only as good as the ground you grow them in and the labs that assure the particular therapeutic substance. I find homeopathic medicines to be more reliable than herbal medicines.

It's a very interesting book, and one that's long been a standard for herbal self care.

From what I've read so far it's pretty detailed about what herb cures what and the like. The only thing I find lacking is the absence of pictures. But I have another book that has color pictures so i can cross reference. I would rather cross reference anyhow just to make sure the say the same thing.

I've never read "Back to Eden". Does it give recipes for the cures? Does it show pictures of the herbs? I guess I'm asking how detailed it is.

I've kind of skipped through it a lil bit. I have heard of the hydrotherapy before. I don't follow a strict vegan diet but I do eat mostly organic meat...either free range grass beef from my parents farm or venison that I process myself so I know what is in it. I rarely buy meat at the store, except for chicken every once in a while. I try to eat natural foods like he suggests and whole grains. Very rarely too do we eat out anymore, I can easily psych myself out by thinking of all the junk in processed and fast food and how it is prepared. I truly believe that everything we need to heal our bodies is provided naturally in nature. And along with that I think that we have poisoned our bodies in the past 50+ years by the foods we eat and not getting enough exercise. Anyhow...I'm looking forward to digging deeper into this book and finding other books to research. If anyone has any suggestions for other books/sources I'd love to know of them.

Blessings....
Sarah

It is SO good!
I would love to see someone update it...some of the herbs he talks about are unknown to me, but that may have more to do with me than with the book...some I think are called by different names than what I am used to hearing.
I am certainly not ready to go on a vegan/sugar-free diet, but there is still a lot to be gained from using his wisdom.
I would love to hear from anyone who has used his treatment methods for cancer and hear how it worked (or maybe didn't) for them. I would think daily enemas would be preferable to chemotherapy, but I've never had either, so I don't know...LOL
