Does anyone know if there are any herbal healings for psoriasis? I have it worse this winter than in the past and usually only get it in the winter time. I mainly have lil patches on my palms and on one knee. It will flake for a while then get really dry and crack and bleed. Any suggestions would be wonderful. I know that UV light helps it but I don't have time to tan right now and it's too cold to go outside much.

I have eniminated most non organic foods from you diet and the psoriasis that i have had my whole life on my legs is all but gone. I also don't drink coffee or soda. (i do drink organic black tea) also i have stopped taking any kind of birth control and that is when it seemed to start clearing up. Good luck i know how painfull it can be

What is EPO?

Good news...my psoriasis is going away. I've done so many things that I'm not sure if I can pinpoint any one thing that worked the best. The only things that I have really done consistently is taking the EPO everyday and elimating milk from my diet...with the execption of a little cheese on salads. I take nettle when I can remember it. I don't want to take that too often as I use it faithfully when allergy season is in full swing. Another thing I did was to get rid of petroleum based soaps. I use either EcoVer or Seventh Generation dish soap and castille soap for bath and Tasha's awesome facial scrub. I have to admit that I've even used the face scrub as a body scrub and it was wonderful. Another thing that could be a factor is winter is on the way out. Cold weather seems to bring out my patches the most. Anyway about it, I'm so glad it's gone!!!

I finally made it the the health food store today. I couldn't find any neem cream but I asked the lady working there and she gave me this cream. It is called Ban and it's an old Indian recipe/cure for psoriasis, fungi and skin problems made locally just across the river in Illinois. I love Indian cures so I got some to try and see if it works. It has veg oil, water, banana skin 'squeesins', lecithin, rosemary oil and vit. E. I also picked up some Seventh Generation dishsoap, EcoVer dishsoap( this has chamomile), EcoVer wood floor cleaner and Ecover general cleaner. I'm going to get rid of all of my other cleaners and use these. Does anyone have a recipe for furniture polish? It's just lemon juice and olive oil I think. So...I hope with all of these things that my hands and my knees and as of lately, the tops of my feet, will heal. It's kinda funny, it seems the colder it gets and the longer it stays below 40ish the worse my psoriasis gets. Coincidence? Probably not.

Blessings....

Ditto to what everyone else said. Also calendula and/or chamomile are very healing and calming to the skin. Maybe try a salve with those herbs. My grandsom has eczema from food allergies and when he has a flare up we use a chamomile cream that works great. I know that keep the skin moisturized is very important.

Kristine

My psoriasis and sometimes eczema too seems to be triggered by my reaction to cold weather. It only seems to really flare up during the winter time. And if I stay out in the cold for too long I break out in hives. I also tend to drink alot of caffiene and have a lot of stress being a single mom with four children and not getting enough sleep. Thanks for your information.

Psoriasis & eczema both are the bodies way for toxins needed to get out, and can be triggered by allergies. The body want to release toxins the easiest way, thus if there is a skin irratation or sensitivity to a airborn or topical product, it will sent wastes out that direction.

The following is what we have found to be most helpful:
-Drink lots of water, eat fresh fruits & veggies to give the body another direction to release.
-Apply a mixture of tea tree essential oil and plain virgin olive oil(25 drops to 2 oz. oil) directly to affected area 2X's day. This keeps the tissue soft, fights secondary infection and promotes healing.
-Apply Momma's Salve (available throught www.herbalmomma.com). This is a awesome product that is filled with healing & soothing herbs that calm the most flared up skin irratations and helps heal.
-Support the adrenal glands by reducing sugar & caffine. Reduce stress and look into herbs and other suppliments that will strengthen the adrenals. All of us with allergy response have a adrenal weakness that we can strengthen.

Sarah, I sent you an email with some info, the EPO can be taken orally or broken open to rub onto your skin. The neem you can get at an herbal store.

Thanks for the great advice. The primrose oil would be taken by mouth I assume? I've only started researching herbal cures and don't know alot. What is neem and where do you get it? The only thing about anything alcohol based is the cracks that I get on the patches. ouch! I work in a hospital and have to wash my hands constantly as well which doesn't help. Definitely time for a new farmgirl job! :)

I second the EPO, and as I have discovered in ther past two days, Neem. Neem was used in Egypy and Africa for skin ailments and for oral hygene. Zoe has some sores on her skin from the thrush and the Neem tincture we got, applied directly to her skin, is clearing it up FAST! It works a lttle on her mouth but siunce it is alcohol, I am diluting it with water (also to get her to drink it...) still waiting on the purple stuff to be delivered. today I am sure.....

So EPO and Neem are my suggestions based on recent (neem) and past experience (EPO).

I have a friend with psoriasis also just on the hands. We have researched many things.
1. Lay off red meats and dairy products
2. Use Vitamin E oil. Put right on sores
3.To reduce redness and swelling apply alcohol free goldenseal extract
4.Primrose oil
Keep hands free of any chemical-check ingredients of lotions
and he found something new and I will call him and see what it is.
I hope this helps some. MB
