Okay ladies, my 14 y/o DS has a recurring rash in his crotch. It's red, crusty, oozes and smells awful. When he sits or stands near me, I can smell it. He showers a minimum of every other day and he says he dries it completely. He sleeps in only his undies. He's not that athletic so he's not sweating in excess.
We've taken him to the doctor several times - they continue to say it's just jock itch and prescribe ointments. None have helped.
In my opinion I think he has a form of yeast infection. I have had him put myconizal on it and it helps the itch and it will clear up a lot, but doesn't go away completely. We've had him change from tidy whities to boxer briefs. I suggested switching again to boxers for a thinner more breathable fabric.
I have put Burt's Bee's diaper rash cream on it. He said it helped a little but still didn't clear it up.
I wanted the doctor to test for candida but he didn't think that was necessary. I would appreciate any suggestion as to what any of you think it might be and what I could use. Thanks in advance.

Our middle son has the same issue, and for him it is yeast... We have yet to deal with the Candida overgrowth (we are going on GAPS mid-January). With that said, we found two things help with his issues. THe first is we switched him to looser underwear. His are still "tighty whities," but a size bigger than he needs. Specifically for the rash, at the first sign of anything, he puts coconut oil on it. It works EVERY time! When it was really bad and we first started, it took a couple days to go away, but now when it starts to come back, it only takes the one application!

I asked my mother, a nurse, what she thought. She also thinks it sounds like yeast. She said to keep using the Myconizal and see if that helps. She also reminded me of a similar rash my son had on his back a couple of years ago. We tried prescriptions, which helped but didn't clear it up. Another nurse friend of hers suggested making a paste of Borax and water and putting it on the area. We did that maybe twice a day for a couple of days and it finally cleared up. I asked my mom if it could be used on such a sensitive area and she said it should be fine. Might be worth a shot!

With his Asperger's he is prone to leaky gut issues.
I will try the powder as well. I also read about sitting in a warm tub of water with 1/4 chlorine bleach for about 20 min.

Just an idea....try some of the powder they use for athlete's feet. You could feign a yeast infection and then give the Diflucan to him.....*evil grin*. Give him yogurt and probiotics. It may be a gut problem, coming out in a weird way. Below is a link to a article about Home Remedy for Yeast infection.

Also, don't mess with fungal infections. Most of them are pretty benign. However, if they are allowed to get out of control, the fungus can disseminate to other parts of the body. My Dad just passed away from a disseminated fungal infection.
