I am 49 and was hoping that Menopause was going to kick in this year as it did for my Mom when she was 49 but alas...no.

I still get extremely painful periods and was wondering if anyone knew of certain herbal remedies to relieve cramping, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Nettle and Oatstraw infusions are wonderful. Alternate drinking nettle one day and oatstraw the next. Make an infusion by placing 1/4 to 1/3 cup of herbs in a quart jar. Fill with hot water and cover. Let steep for at least 4 hours to overnight. Strain and drink. You can drink chilled and add honey if you want. There are so many wonderful things that these two infusions do it is amazing. Look them up sometime!

Motherwort tincture for heart palpitations works wonders.

I make a tincture from Hawthorne Berries, Vitex, Ashwaganda & licorice. The combination acts as a hormone tonic by stimulating the pituitary gland, which regulates the balance of estrogen and progesterone in the body.

Passion flower is a wonderful calming herb that helps you to relax. Best of luck!

You have received some excellent advice, and I hope your cramps have been taken care of. :)
Bladderwack and Irish Moss, both seaweeds, are said to help with estrogen. You can probably pull some info on it, I was told by my Oma, and swear by them. I also believe Nettle infusions are just an ongoing, good tonic for women of all ages & stages. Beginning with teens, as it flushes and keeps acne away :).

A tea made with fresh or ground ginger brings relief from pain and warms the abdomen. I was astonished how well it worked the first time I used it. Ginger also lowers inflammation in the joints and does not produce side effects.

Thank you everyone for your input :) I am careful about what I eat (for the most part occasionally I am bad with sweets) No processed, artificial stuff. As fresh as I can get and well balanced meals. Lucky for me I am not a big caffeine person.

I look forward to checking out everything. Thanks again ladies!

On the subject of cramping, I dealt with endometriosis when I was having my cycles. Peppermint drops in a glass of water gave almost immediate relief. You can also put it in tea but try to keep the teas decaffeinated.

I agree with BettyJo. We need to be careful of what we are eating. Our diet has a major impact on us with pms and menopausal symptoms. I have been post menopausal for 7 years and I find when I eat any type of junk food or processed foods the hot flashes return. Also staying away caffeine is a big deterrent to hot flashes.

Hello,
Here is a couple of websites that you may be interested. I have seen met and listened to both women in person and am studying under Aviva for women's health. I personal have seen fantastic results in the past month using Herbal Infusions of Nettle, Oat straw, Red Clover, and Lindon Flower, Comfrey salve, Progessence Plus from young living oils and am presently working on other moisturizing and lubricating products. I am post menopausal for 6 years and in the past 4 or 5 had a few issues along with hot flashes. I have gotten tired of doctors and their pushing of pills and hormones that have many side affects. Tests and scares about health issues that are really very common in menopause. The fact that menopausal is not the end of life but a beginning of life. Yes it does come with some unfavorable or uncomfortable times but there is so much that you can do with diet and plants from our Earth that God has provide for use. I have found personally that when I eat foods that contain gluten or drink alcohol, to much caffeine my symptoms become worse. The best thing us women can do is talk with each other and our daughters about what is happening to our bodies and to teach our young women to care for their bodies early on. The better we eat and care for our body the better they will preform year after year.

Speaking of menopause, does anyone have any idea of what will keep my hot flashes down?

I only have a minute to write...so will suggest crampbark, black haw, black cohosh, or valerian...additionally you may also want to look up someone who does Maya abdominal massage as your uterus may just need a gentle adjustment.

Sharon,
basil, peppermint, or clary sage essential oils applied to abdomen may help a bit.
