I don't know how you feel about chiropractic care but I truly feel my chiro dr got rid of it completely. Had a terrible time with it in my forties but haven't had it in years due to chiro adjustments.

My husband has this too, and we read somewhere that being low in the B vitamins can be part of the reason. I got him some liquid B-12 complex drops from Walgreens. In a couple of weeks he no longer had the problem. He has been free of restless legs now for nearly a year, but if he travels and forgets to take his B-12 complex drops his legs start moving again. Crazy!

I find that potasium, magnesium & calcium ease both leg cramps and restlessness. The combination is just a good nerve tonic in general. These 3 elements have a special relationship to each other, a product called "Calms Plus" combines them in the right quantities to maximize their effectiveness. Find it at health food stores. It's a powder that mixes into juice or water and tastes tart, lemon-y.

My heart goes out to you too. I have RLS as well. I'm on a prescribed Rx, but my new massage therepist told me to start taking Magnesium. It really bothers me when the air pressure changes big time - a big change in weather coming - my legs are all over the place.
Never heard of the hemp sheets working for RLS. Will have to price them out and where I can get them on-line.
The side effects from medications I had never thought about, but could make very good sense. Will have to check my out.
Thanks for all the new info.

Aromatherapy treatments with Lavender and Chammomile in conjunction with a magnesium supplement and a regular daily exercise and stretching routine helped me alot. I was also going to acupuncture for asthma/anxiety and my RLS symptoms would always subside for a few days after treatments. My RLS and leg cramps turned out to be a side effect from a combination of medications I was taking. I've had no more symptoms since I stopped taking them a few years ago. Hope you find some relief...it's annoying when you can't sleep.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Diana,
This may sound strange but when I'm having RLS I stand and kinda shift my weight back and forth on my legs kinda wiggly, I add a about four deep knee bends and up on my tiptoes. It helps most of the time.

Thank goodness I am not afflicted with this but I do get night leg cramps that hurt a lot. I did recently read an article about a women who had similar problems and she switched to organic hemp sheets. The article said that our cotton sheets have many chemicals that linger for years on our sheets even after washing and that our skin absorbs these chemicals in small amounts. After she switched to organic hemp sheets all of her symptoms disappeared and she had the most restful sleep she had had in years. I haven't tried them yet. But I am on the hunt for a set if anyone knows where you can purchase them. Good luck in resolving this painful and annoying problem.

Restless leg syndrome is sometimes caused by a reaction to drugs or sleep disorders. My partner has gone the whole gamut with this. If you are taking any other kinds of medications, take them to your local pharmacy and have them go through the list with you. If that doesn't work, or nothing there jumps out at the pharmacist, try going through a sleep disorders center to see if they can help.

It might just be a case of not enough water in your system, or not enough exercise, but you need to rule out a lot of other stuff before you get to this.

Good luck with this.

If you have it often, I suggest you see your doctor for a prescription. I have night terrors and RLS so I go through a sleep center. They first did a sleep study and I have been taking a medication for the past five years now. I still have nights where the RLS keeps me awake, but they are few and far between. I don't know any home remedies other than sleeping with a leg pillow.

I found Restful Legs by Hyland's at Wal-Mart, and it works when I have that problem, I feel for you because use can't sleep when that happens, some people say to put a bar of soap under you sheets, I have never tried it but some people swear by it! Roxanna
