I was wondering what natural things there are to help with woman things. I am overwhelmed between the physical issues and the emotional instability of perimenopause. One day, I am my normal self (though who knows what normal is anymore) and the next I feel like a raging, crying, lunatic whose freezing with painful boobies and can't remember one thought to the next.
Help!! Please?
Thanks
hugs

Motherwort is a girl's best friend! Try some nettles also very high in nutrition value.

My doctor now has tested my levels to confirm I am in the early stages of menopause. The other did not think it was needed. I think because he was a he and has no idea what the terror and confusion can be like :-) I am lacking in estrogen and so phytoestrogen rich plants help me maintain a more even keel. Less mood swings for sure and a much happier time...if I keep up the two cups a day of rrl tea.

I have the reaspberry leaves and I need to get back to drinking the tea. For everyone else out there who is going through this or been through will the doctors do hormone level testing or is it usually based on you reporting your symptoms? I am having definite mood problems related to my cycle but I'm not sure if its progesterone or estrogen.

Okay I got extra curious and this is what I read on a couple of sites. The leaves have the most potency just before flowering. I can only imagine what they would be like if the late summer ones were fantastic :-)

"If you grow your own raspberries or live where they grow wild you should harvest the raspberry leaves in spring or mid-summer for maximum potency. Use them freshly picked, but if drying them for storage, do so away from light. They dry nicely spread thinly on a cotton sheet hung hammock fashion from the ceiling, according to Norma Whitehead."

I am not sure myself whether or not NOW is the right time to harvest the leaves of the plant. I am wondering if I pick now will I damage the fruit crop because the plant is trying to put on more leaves instead of fruit??? I figured I would start harvesting leaves when the flowers were set on the bushes. I started last august/september harvesting leaves (and eating fruit) and drying them and them chopping them up. I had trays and trays of leaves it was amazing to see so much fit into a quart mason jar. I know this does not answer your question but....

I do have raspberry plants. Do I just pick off the leaves and dehydrate them? I'm so new to the herb stuff.

So glad I found this post! I am 46 and have had symptoms for many many years. Ugh! My mother entered menopause in her early 20's and so did I. The worst for me are the night sweats. From time to time, I will experience a mood swing that sends me deep into myself where I want to cry and not talk to anyone. It will last for like 24 hours and no matter how hard I try, I can't snap out of it. It will suddenly disappear. What in the world?? I'd say this happens once every 6 months or so. Anyone ever experience that? I have never heard of using raspberry leaves but I def want to try it!

About this time two years ago I was ready to have myself committed. No joking here. I was having trouble keeping the smallest aspects of my life together - the large parts just fell to the wayside. I felt it coming on for at least two years and asked both my doctors to test my hormone levels as I felt that was the problem or I was truly slipping mentally. I was told I was too young, seemed mentally stable and able to carry on a conversation and so on. I read alot myself and researched on line and learned about wild yam cream. I gave it a try and it literally sent me over the deep end. Last year I read about raspberry leaves and went straight to the garden and cut/dried and brewed some up.

I can honestly say it has made a world of difference for me. I sleep better, no hot flashes, I and think and speak at the same time, my mind does not drift (as often), I sound slightly intelligent :-), my skin is happier (few break outs and not so dry) and so on. I know everyone is different and everything effects us differently but I have read so many comments from ladies who sound like me. I wish I had know about Raspberry leaves for the last 30 years. All symptoms before during and after the cycle are less almost as if it is really not happening (as if). I dried up a quart jar of my own raspberry leaves (tedious work) and then this winter I tried Bulk Herb's Mama's Red Rasberry Tea with nettle, peppermint and alfalfa. I will never be without this blend. It tastes good and with a few drops of good vanilla it is like drinking dessert and that is saying something coming from me...I love dessert. During the winter I drank it hot twice a day everyday but now that summer is fast approaching I have a pitcher in the fridge for a cold drink anytime. My husband has mistaken my pitcher for his and as enjoyed a couple of glasses and he is very particular about his tea tasting the way he likes it.

Now with all this said for the last month and 1/2 I have not been taking the tea on a regular basis. My mother had surgery and I was with her for a couple of weeks. Then two days after returning home I started working 2 jobs. I would just come home and go to bed and then rush out the next morning to start all over again. All the symptoms came back with a vengence. I have been trying for two weeks now to have my tea in the am/pm. I feel better already. Silly, silly girl.

I hope you find something that will work for you and I hope you will give red raspberry leaves a try.

For sleep I take Melatonin. It works better than some prescription meds I've taken before. Zinc and magnesium help with sleep also. Catnip in my tea will usually relax me to the point that I don't want to leave the chair..lol.

I found sublingual B-12 helped me, as well as raspberry leaf tea, and vitamin c helped me. I heard about something else, but I can't remember what it was. Maybe it was Milk Thistle. Don't quote me on that one I will have to post back later if I remember what it was!

Hi Jessie,
I would highly recommend trying my Menopausal Tea- A mineral rich tea which is nourishing and supportive for women throughout their menopause passage. Eases stress, improves digestion and enhances a feeling of vitality and well being.
Red Clover, Lady's Mantle, Rosehips, Shatavari, Catnip, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Raspberry Leaf, Dandelion Leaf.
I know its a bit of shameless promotion, but my mom swears by it. :)

Raspberry tea is very good - make sure it is real rasperry leaves and not just raspberry flavored. Read up on chasteberry - I am not sure if it would help or not.

Connie, you made me chuckle with your comment about not shaving your legs as often. It is nicer being on the other side, though I don't know if everything truly ever subsides. My husband's grandma had hot flashes into her 80's and his mom still does in her late 60's.

You guys are bringing back memories. Regular exercise and sleep habits helped me the most. The good news is that there is life on the other side! I love being post menopausal! No mood swings, calmer and more centered all the time. I'm back to baseline on body temp. In short I like myself better and so does everyone else! My libido is not driving the bus. :) But the bus still shows up. ;) I don't have to shave my legs as often. My memory has slipped a bit but it's no worse than peri-menopause and I handle it a lot better now!
So hang in there! It will be OK.

You should split up your vitamin D into three doses because your body can only assimilate so much at a time and the rest is wasted. If you are taking 1500mg then 500 three times a day is good. Also, if you take it before bed it will help you sleep as it helps you sleep just like a glass of milk would before sleep.

Hubby and I are the same way with the blankets. I was told that perimenopause can start as early as 25!!! With Spring being on its way but not quite here yet, the neighbors think I am crazy when I go outside in 40 degree weather in shorts and flipflops and a half hour later comeout with pants and a sweatshirt.
I have three little people so getting any kind of excersize routine is little rough. I am definitely going to try the vitamin D.
I would love to have a set bedtime, but I am a night owl and sleep seems to be evading me these days anyways. Does the excersize and VItamin D help sleeping at all? I was thinking maybe the sleep would help with the memory part. Hubby is getting a bit tired of finding the milk in the cupboard and the glass in the fridge. :/
Thank you all for the encouragement! It's nice to know I'm not the only one going through this craziness!

Yes on all these! I've started into the same life stage as you too, a little early according to my doc, but there nonetheless. The Vitamin D work huge daily wonders for me, and when things get a little extra weird, the raspberry tea used for a while seems to help. Plus it is sooo good. Evening primrose has also been recommended, but I haven't tried it yet. Sometimes I think I'll go nuts with the hot, cold, hot, cold. I take to sleeping under a different blanket than my hubby just so I don't wake him up so much each time I throw the blankie off or on! And I read that yes, exercise is extremely important for these problems because it counteracts some of the problems that can occur later on, like osteoporosis some, heart problems, etc. I just like the exercise because it lifts my mood and renews my energy. Even a little walk around the garden helps. Hope you find some stability and relief!

I am in the same stage of life and found exercise every day, fruits and veggies, a green tea break every afternoon, at least an hour or two of fresh outside air no matter what the weather and sleep are what helps me. The exercise and sleep work the best. I do a minimum of half hour exercise every morning where I work up a good sweat and I turn the light off at 10 pm every night and am up at 6:00 am every morning. I don't supplement or anything like that. Hope this helps with your journey.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

Thanks Angie. I swear some days, I think I am going to go crazy. I have raspberry tea with the actual raspberry leaves. I will definitely check it out and see what I can find. I had absolutely no idea which direction to start in.
THANKS!!

I would start with raspberry leaf tea because it's an all around good women's tea. There's lots of homeopathics to help with symptoms. Look for an herbal blend for balancing in your local health food store or online herbal shop. sometimes I have to switch things up depending on what's going on. I know living in the NW I have HAD to start taking vitamin D daily. Sometime 5000 to 10000 units a day. It's really helped me. =)

Do what you love, love what you do.
