I was wondering if anyone would know what herbs or concoctions would help someone with chronic urinary infections? She (my mum) has taken cranberry capsules, and drank juice. She gets them very badly, all the time. She is so tired of being on antibiotics, but is in this vicious circle.
Anything would help, Thanks!

Good morning! I have not read through the entire chat, but I wanted to toss out an option ... Urva ursi (herb), steep into tea - add peppermint/spearmint leaves for flavor and dandelion root and leaves for additional diuretic cleansing. Email me if you'd like additional details.... Good luck!

I had to research this years ago. I read that taking Dolomite at the onset was supposed to help, but no one knew why. It does help me shove it back some, but when I get a UTI, there is no course but to go to the doc and get meds. They are very wicked things. Doctors, even specialists just do not understand why some women have them as chronic issues. Another person suggested peppermint tea. My mom thinks that if she drinks cranberry juice and gets off her feet for a while when she feels one starting, it helps to stave it off.

Definitely, Cranberry capsules. I hate UTI's, they are utter misery

Let me clarify that. It is because stuff gets lodged in the urethra and rinsing it out after stops infections before they happen.

Goldenseal and cranberry is my magic cure. Also Pau DArco Tea in extreme cases. I have found (and this is also quite personal) that peeing after sex helps the most.

I know this sounds personal but does she take bathes? Mine were caused by bath water & I was told to only take showers! I haven't had a bad one since.

I take Organic cranberry juice extract plain when I get one and they are gone within 2 days.
I am so sorry Tina for your mom. I will be praying for her.

He said the average 8 year old could take an entire bottle of flintstone vitamins and not overdose, so they are the safest. Some of the other brands use questionable sources for their pills and you have to worry about impurities is what he told me.

Flintstones is what I use for my kids. A lot of the other brands require several pills a day to meet daily requirements. My youngest takes Eskimo Kids Fish Oil as well. In regards to cleanliness, what about using one of those cleansing bottles that they give to women after having a baby? I think that might help in prevention.

I agree with Littleredd. When women get older, they tend to lose the sensation of a burning bladder like one might have had when young. Because of close proximity, UTI's are easy to get. Bladder & bowel habits are lax in older age. Keeping ones self clean...even with baby wipes and keeping the acid level up with Vitamin C helps alot.

Don't forget Vitamin C!! The bad guys that cause UTI's don't like an acid environment.

Thank you Ladies for all your help. I will pass this on to my mother.

I add in hydrangea tincture with my cranberry juice. It's really important (as stated from others) to build up the digestive system with the lacto/acidolpilus type cultures (in yogurt and kefir, etc.) to combat the overgrowth of yeast which also contributes to the balance issues and ongoing UTI issues.

Do what you love, love what you do.

I used cranberry pills with success. I also take the pills that contain the bacteria that is found in yogurt. It is to keep from getting a yeast infection, but I found it helps with bladder problems also.

For some people, cola can cause bladder infections.

My mom is a diabetic and gets recurring UTI from e-coli bacteria. Get a probiotic capsule with l. reuteri and l. rhamnosus in it. I found one at Wal-mart. Those two probiotics fight off UTI's.

An old home remedy that worked well for me was cooking aspargus and drinking the water that it was cooked in. Aspargus cleanses the kidneys and bladder for some reason. Fresh is best but frozen will work as well. I don't like aspargus but I was desperate and it worked.
