thinking of making my own- any suggestions for recipes, what ingredients, and any herbal ingredients that would be helpful.
with a large family, I'm frequently buying lip balm for myself, dh and my teens - I think making my own would be a good idea, and at least I'd know what the ingredients are!

Hi!
I love, love, love adding some berries to mine.
It adds such a sheer pretty color! And you can choose how much color you want, which is great!

Sharon,
Thanks for posting that wonderful site for bottles
and tins. Love the suggestions for what to include in lipbalm.
Love vitamin E, it is so multipurpose in the herbal world.

hands, I give with my heart ....

YOu can get those tubes in some of the craft stores now, hobby lobby, joannes or whatever. I order the little pots online, personal preference.

thanks for the great recipes. May I ask what type of containers you use? My kids like the rollup tube kind, but i"m not sure where to find them. also small jars would probably be good too. Just ask long as they're small enough to be portable- in a purse, backpack, etc.

Hi Amy,

I have a recipe on my blog. It's super easy to make and works beautifully. I use grapeseed oil (or almond), beeswax, honey and alkanet root (for tinting and healing properties) Warning: The recipe yields ALOT :)

I use almond oil, beeswax, vit e oil and I also like to add peppermint oil. The kind you use for candymaking. I have also used plain olive oil in a roll on as a lip gloss. Is that wrong?? :) I have also considered trying to infuse the oils with my stevia but not sure how it behaves, Ive only had it for the year so far, good in tea though! Also, consider still buying lip balm with sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors because Im a mama and I worry.

I make one with coconut oil, vitamin e, a few berries for color, and you can add some beeswax if you would like it to stay firm in this hot weather. Works great.

I use plain lanolin to tell you the truth. I have heard its fairly easy to make, but, a big thing of lanolin (the kind meant for breastfeeding, not lanolizing diaper covers) can go a long way. The one I got for after my 3rd was born (in September of 2006) still has a few more months left in it. Not tasty or wonderfully scented, but, it does the trick.

I am Jenn. Wife to A, mama to S, B, L and V.
