Hi Everyone,
I just posted on my blog about our wild onions and how I dry them for use later. If you have ever been curious about them, wanted to know how to dry them check it out. Oh, and one thing I did not mention on the blog. . . I harvest one leaf per plant. The bulb gets it's energy from the leaves, so taking just one leaf helps keep the bulb going.
I also rotate where I am harvesting, so I never harvest from the same spot year to year.

They sure do look like onions to me. . . could even be a garlic. Have you tasted the bulb to see?? The stalks usually smell like onion, but there is no mistaking the flavor of garlic

What do the rest of you gals think? Onion or garlic??

I am discovering each region has a different version of wild onion. If you can take a few pictures I bet we could identify it for you. It very well could be a wild onion, ours are very large this year. Last year very few even put up leaves. . we were so blown away with the abundance this season. So post a picture or two if you can, it will help with the identification process.

Hey Joanna- now that I have seen your pictures, I'm wondering what I have. Maybe garlic? They have thin leaves and little bunches of flowers at the top. I've never used them or harvested them. Any ideas? Maybe because I am in the south - I don't know. They sure do smell like onions.

Hi Joanna- I'm so glad you wrote about wild onions. I was out picking blackberries with my daughters the other day and lo and behold . . . wild onions - everywhere. My youngest was so excited, she nixed the blackberry hunting and went after onions. (She's weird)
I'm off to check out your site - she'll be so happy!
