Would anyone share a recipe for Linen sprays or where I might find some recipes for them. Also what brand of Essential Oils do you use. Thanks

I've always used distilled water and my EO....never had any problem with it going rancid or anything and a bottle may last me a month or more. Of course, this is my personal use.

Jonni,
I had to giggle at your comment about you DH smelling like a clemintine.... my DH hates it when I use lavender water when ironing his shirts,,,,(not that I iron his shirts often) once he said it makes him smell like a plant! I reminded him that lavender is also a natural bug repellant,,, and then he said, "must not be working,,,cuz you are still hear"! HaHaHaHa!!!

Hi ladies! I make a ton of room spray, and I have never had mine go bad. Put 1/2 teaspoon of Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in your bottle, add 1/4 teaspoon of fragrance oil (only a few drops of essential oils) shake well. This mixture will likely become a white/creamy consistancy. Then fill the rest of the way with cool distilled water, add your spray cap & shake well before each use! Enjoy!!!

This weekend, I was looking for something to do and made a linen spray, based on Mary Jane's recipe in the Idea book but instead of mint, used Mandarin essential oil. I ironed my husband's shirts for work this week and now he smells like a clementine :)

Hey Judy,
quick question,,, can I also steep the dried lavender stems for the linen spray or only the fresh cut ones?
Up till now, I usually make "lavender tea" spray (from fresh lavender) which I use for everything, ironing spritz, face refresher, counter cleaner(lite wipe downs) etc. I do store my spray in the refridge.

Another very simple way to make linen spray is to make a "tea" out of your herb. For this, you can even use the stems...so when I take the buds from lavender or the leaves from mint, I save the stems. Just pour boiling water over them, let it steep until it's cool and then strain and use in your spray bottle. If you have leftover, you can refrigerate it, or just dump it out, cause it didn't really cost anything. Just a thought.

grapeseed extract is what you are thinking of (also known commonly as GSE). It's usefulness is, shall we say, under question by some. 'lil bit of Vodka or everclear will do ya fine. :)

essential oil or fragrance oil mixed one to one with polysorbate 20, and then mixed with either distilled water, or a mix of distilled water/vodka.

I think there are lots of Web sites for soapmakers, selling the usual ingredients. Whatever the grapefruit thing it, it's pretty common. I'm sure you could find it easily. Also, a lot of Farmgirls are soapmakers. They might have good advice about how (or what else) to use. Do you really think a preservative is necessary? I guess it would be if you're bottling the sprays for sale, but probably not if making your own for home use, since you can mix it up and use it all so fast, if you're like me.

I make mine up right before using it, then use it all up. No need for preservatives that way! ;-) But what about the grapefruit stuff that soapmakers use as a preservative? I imagine that would be good.

Betty Jo - there is a recipe for linen water in MaryJane's book. I have made these for years and one thing you should do is add a preservative. If it's for personal use only you can just use vodka. I get my essential oils online from Essential Wholesale but you can get them most anywhere. It's probably less expensive to get them from an online soap supply than buying in the health food store.

I just put a few drops of Essential oil in a water spray bottle. I use Aura Cacia brand Essential oils because that is what our local Co-Op carries.
