I think that where this site seems to promote self sufficiently, a new forum that I am suggesting is foraging/hunting/fishing . Hunting, I know is controversial among many people but it is part of being self sufficient. The way I see it, if people support raising meat animals hunting / fishing and foraging would be a good fit.

If we started the conversation here and it gets enough interest I'm sure it would be considered for being another topic eventually.
It is bow season here right now and JT went and got his license so hopefully we will soon be having venison in the freezer. We picked up a few things to help us in the processing. Prefer to do it ourselves so we can get all the cuts we want.

Definitely a great topic! Would love to see this added. JT (dh) hunts and I told him when the weather gets colder I will go with him. Would love to fill the freezer this year! Always good for canning too. Enjoy fishing too. My dad and I like to go as soon as the weather gets nice. Don't know much about foraging. Used to go with my aunt when I was little but not enough to remember anything about it. Always love to learn more.

I think that is a good topic to pursue. I don't hunt but my bil does and the meat is good.

Great idea! The best way to see if it's a topic with enough interest to warrant it's own category is to get a thread going. If it has lots of interest, it'll pop up continuously under Active Topics. That's how we knew Swaps needed their own category. |
