This is so goofy! I've done several different kinds of fairs in the past including MaryJane's last year but I'm getting really nervous about it! This will only be the second time I've put my sewing 'skills' on display, so to speak! I remember participating in the Fremont Market in Seattle and there I sold stained glass jewelry I had made. I never got over not being somewhat nervous. It's a funny thing..a really humbling and vulnerable experience..such a personal experience as well. Any of you other vendors feeling this way? I am also so excited jazzed to be participating again. The environment of Farm Fair is so low-key and calm. My kids are totally excited to be camping. Should be good fun.. Just going through a little self-doubt is all..is my display going to be interesting? Are my prices too over the top? etc... crazy, silly stuff. Still, there it is. I should get over the hump once I get there... Anyone else out there with butterflies in their bellies?!
Many smiles to you,
Julia Hayes

So nice to know everyone is feeling the same way...nervous, excited, some of us packed (and those of us who put things off to the last minute)not packed. One of the farmgirls in our chapter is traveling with me and it's sad to see the faces of those in the rearview mirror that can't go. We are planning a slideshow night with our group when we get back and will be passing on hugs from both home and the farm fair.
See you at the fair, look forward to putting faces and names together..
...leaving in a few hours so guess I better go pack

you can be oh so smart, or you can be oh so positive. I wasted a lot of time being smart I prefer being positive.

I just got a new fancy digital camera...you can bet I'll be getting shots of everyone. I am planning to take my laptop and if I can get Internet I will post from the Farm Fair.

Only 3 more days and Missy & I will be leaving for Farm Fair!! I've already got butterflies in my stomach -- partly because my list of last minute stuff is enormous and mostly because I'm so excited. We had our garage sale over the weekend and raised just enough to cover our motel and gas expenses. That was a huge thing for us because we didn't want to take any money from our household budgets for the trip -- nor could we afford to. We prayed and God blessed! WHEW!

Julia, you are going to do wonderfully! I would love to see your prarie skirts and petticoats too! Take a deep breath and know that not everyone can sew, and so many women would love to have your skills and talent and ability to put it all together! I didn't know you make petticoats. I would love to have a petticoat. Keeps the thighs from rubbing together! LOL Good Luck, you are going to have a fabulous time!! I might just have to make a vow to go to farmfair with my girls next year. I want to meet all ya'll!
Love and hugs and blessings to you and all of the vendors and Queenbee Mary Jane!!

I have such wonderful visions of Farm Fair with all of your booths and the things you are making on display - with your smiling selves close by - you'll all do WONDERFULLY, and I am so wishing I could be there... You have all of us farmgirls behind you all the way!!!

Petticoats!!! How fun!!! I can just imagine how comfortable and cute they are... I am also almost feeling how much warmer and more cozy they'd be in winter with tights and a heavier skirt. What a great idea!

XOXO, Libbie

I know what you all are saying...my friends and family always encourage me to sell my homemade wares, but I'm so afraid that they "just aren't good enough". Just get nervous, but I figure if I'm doing what I love to do, it will show. I know the quality has to be good and not everyone is into country or primitive or whatever and I can always give my things away as gifts as I do now. It's hard to put yourself out there sometimes. I do have an etsy account, so if I can figure out this dang camera, maybe I'll start posting some items.

I never ceased to be amazed with the creativity of people! Thank you for all your encouragement and support and I'm so glad I'm not alone! I'm feeling better..less nervous..more ready to get out there and have fun! lotions, potions,candles..can not wait!ahhhhh Tracy, I don't have any idea how to post pictures yet. I will be taking lots of pictures and will chat with some more knowledgeable farmgirls about how to post so you can see the skirts.. Think, simple petticoat.. They are designed to be worn as a petticoat under a dress or a skirt alone. I love to wear mine as petticoats especially in the colder months..that extra layer makes a nice difference. I have some short ones (mid calf) and some longer ones. I prefer the longer ones but some people like the shorter skirts. The fabrics soften with wear and washing. Right now the linen is pretty stiff but they flow beautifully. I'm off to play and make play dough for the kids!

I woke up in the middle of the night last night in an almost panic! Thinking of all the things on my list that need to be done in the next week! Lots of sewing to finish up -- I'll be burning the midnight oil on that! I sat down and made a list on Sunday to try and clear my head. It didn't work very well. I'm making lotion bars, linen water, soy candles (if the rest of my supplies get here), purses, tote bags, and some pillows. Julia -- I can relate to your feelings of nervousness. I always feel like maybe my stuff isn't good enough, will the display look ok, etc. But it always works out! Can't wait to meet all of you that are going!

We are getting a little nervous here as well and the to-do list keeps getting longer. We have also been discussing how we will set things up. We won't have a huge amount of items, but hope to have enough larger pieces to display on. we'll only have so much room in the van to bring everything. I started some painted flags on barn board today and last night I did a little stitching. I will mostly have soaps, etc., but also some misc. stuff too. I do some paper art and altered art on canvas.

It does make you feel very vulnerable to "be on display", but I love when everyone's talent and passion comes together in one place. It's so fun to see what everyone is doing and meet new people. More than anything, we are gonna have a ball!! Can't wait to give out farm girl hugs!!!! We'll see you there next year Jenny!! I haven't forgotten your Mona sign. I keep thinking about it in between everything that's going on right now. I'll be working on it tomorrow while I have my other projects out. It's supposed to be gorgeous weather!! Let's pray it carries over into Farm Fair weekend.

Love and Blessings,

Missy

Oh gosh....I sure wish I COULD do that. Believe me..if there were any way I could I sure would. I want to be there so much!! Unfortunatly it isn't just the Mona milking problem...
You all have to take lots and lots of pictures and tell me all the details so I feel like I was there. Next year I will be there for sure...no matter what!!! I hate missing out on the fun and meeting you all!!

I was thinking about how much you would like to go to the farm fair this year, and that you are not going because of Mona, I say if you tie her behind a wagon, hitch up the horses, put sunbonnets on yourself and the kids, and if you leave right now you could be there on time. Just an idea, hate that you are having to miss it this year.

Julia,
Is there somewhere that your prairie skirts can be viewed? I will be in between trips (and since I just found out about Farm Fair, it's not realistic this year anyway!) and I just can't stand not knowing everything!!! Will you post a picture or direct me somewhere....
thanks
Tracy

Judy, I was SO hoping you would read this thread and slap me upside the head! I needed it! I have no idea what my deal is...just goofy nervous is all.. My booth right now consists of a rack filled with clothes and that's it! I suppose this fits perfectly with my 'simple living' pursuits.. Judy, I so appreciate your gentle reminder and I am so excited to meet you on the farm soon! Aunt Jenny, I so wish you were going to be there. I will look forward to meeting you one of these days.. until then, cheers!

Julia, you're a nut! A few weeks ago you were encouraging me, and now you need the confidence! Well, I am still wondering what will happen, but I'm taking a serious lesson from you and being thankful that I do not depend on this for my livelihood. I've been busily crafting for the last couple weeks and getting together my little storefront! This Saturday I'm "building my booth" which will really be a backdrop and then pretty soon we'll be packing up for the Fair! I already told you I want one of your Prairie skirts, so you've already got a sale! Well, we'll get over ourselves on Sunday when we meet up, okay? I am super excited because it's my first real show, and that just adds to the butterflies. Well, calm down! Smiles and hugs, Judy
