LOL - we usually go to our farm as a vacation! Hardly ever do we go anywhere else! What kind of activities do you enjoy most - here are some as thoughtstarters...

1. Sightseeing - San Francisco/ Chicago/ St. Louis/ New York/ Washington DC
2. Shopping for souveniers - or just plain shopping (Fifth Avenue, NYC)
3. Museums/historical sites (Smithsonian? Field Museum? Colonial Williamsburg?)
4. Active vacations - whitewater rafting, horseback riding, mountain climbing
5. Bird Watching - look for migration information (Audubon Society?) for seasonal data
6. Beach combing, swimming, surfing, sunning, etc. (Florida? North Carolina? Caribbean?)
7. Natural History/ Natural Wonders - Grand Canyon, Black Hills
8. Camping/RVing
9. Farm vacations - milking cows and feeding chickens - or a dude ranch
10. Gambling - Atlantic City? Windsor Canada? Riverboat gambling down the Mississippi?
11. Game shows - think Hollywood or NYC
12. Bluegrass or country Music - think Branson Missouri or Nashville TN ??
13. Boating/Fishing - Lake of the Ozarks
14. Relaxing, romantic - Poconos
15. Car racing - any city with a NASCAR track?
16. Try to fill the National Park Passport book by visiting all the National Parks
17. Stay home and find touristy stuff to do with "one-tank trips" in your area
18. Bike ride across the USA? Or your home state?

Hi, I live on the very outskirts of the Adirondacks, and yes, it is beautiful. I work in Potsdam as secretary and visit Lake Placid as often as possible, which sad to say isn't very often. I used to work in Saranac Lake at the community college there but my position got cut..........so to Potsdam I went!! Great place to vacation.....!!

I realize this is an oldish topic, but can't resist putting in another vote for Lake Placid, NY. Truly, truly lovely both summer and winter. We visited several times when living in PA. If I could've figured out how to support myself, I'd probably be living in the Adirondacks now!

Annapolis, Maryland .. Ocean City ... can't get much more EAST than the Atlantic Ocean!

Annapolis .. the capitol of Maryland and home of the Naval Academy is a wonderful, quaint, charming town .. then head over the Bay Bridge to the beaches. Be sure to visit Assoteague Island where the wild ponies roam!

lots of antiques shoppes between Annapolis and Ocean City too!

Hi ilovecountry72! I live in New York, upstate New York, in the Adirondacks. Have you ever been? It is absolutely beautiful here. Lake Placid, home of the 1980 winter olympics is a great town to visit. Why not try the Adirondacks?

NY and New England are both great. We go to both a lot, since both our families are still back there. There's a boat cruise you can take around New England in the fall that looks like a lot of fun. And there's so much to do in NY State and NY City.

I love new england. We go alot. If you want a western type of thing, go to Crested Butte, Colorado or Arizonia although it will be very hot. I dont like the heat so we usually go north. Maine is beautiful, it has everything. Canada also has MANY things to offer. Mountains are what we like.We were seriously thinking of looking for a small farm in Maryland but decided N.J. is as far south as we want to go. Actually my dream has always been Vermont, we'll see. Find something you all like to do & pick the best spot for that. Some states have s/thing for eveybody. Good luck.

We're going to Cape Cod for a wedding soon! I've never been there before, can't wait! Although I hope the weather clears up....

I was going to say Nashville, TN! If you really want to go east, go to Maine. Beautiful area. My family summered there for years. Try Kennebunkport or York Beach. Both are very nice.

If you like friendly small town type people, but a city.
I can highly recommend KNOXVILLE TN.
I go every year for work and absolutely love it there.
If I had to pick another area of our country to live it would be there.
Cost of living is very reasonable and everyone I met has been so friendly.
