i have been cding my babe for about 6mmonths. we use bummies. since about the beginning of dec. she has had a diaper rash that has never completely cleared up. i have used a&d zinc oxide on her tush every day. I try to do "nekkid time" every day to let her dry out and I try to change her every one to two hours. Any suggestions before I give up and go disposable? |

The Dr said it was contact dermatitis. From the soap I'm using probably. He said make sure there's no whiteners in there. I think my biggest problem is getting her changed enough. I'll have to buckle down and change her more often I think. And she is going up a size in her cloth diapers so maybe it'll clear up a bit since there won't be as much possible bacterial buildup as these ones she's been wearing for 6 months. |

Another bottom rub to try is Bag Balm. I know it sounds crazy, but it's excellent (like vasoline) at keeping moisture away from the skin, plus it has stuff (camphor and lanolin) to heal, which Vasoline doesn't have.

is she cottage cheesy at all, down in her parts? baby girls get yeast infections that present a lot like the ones women get. Is her skin normally sensitive also? Zoe has super sensitive skin and her pee is so acidic-no matter what I do-and that is how she gets a rash if she has to be covered all day for whatever reason.
I am curious what your doc will say.
OOOO And I ws going to mention, oftentimes babies do need more changin than every couple of hours. There are times when iw ill change Zoe 4-5 time within just a couple ofhours because she pees so much. Breast fed babies are incredibly hydrated and so they will pee A LOT.

Are you breast feeding? This may sound strange, but I've noticed that if I am eating more sugar, she is more likely to be more rashy, yeast-related. So, when she gets a little rash, I do all the things you are doing plus I cut out the extra sugars in my diet and eat some extra yogurt. And it clears right up. What did the doc say?

My Dr. told me that vaseline is the best thing for keeping moisture off a bottom. It's worked for me eveytime the others wouldn't as far as creams go. Unless of course, it's yeast.

She is going to doctor today for shots, so I am going to ask him if it is a yeast infection and not just diaper rash. |

When we have a rashy bum I do the same thing as Tasha, just the cotton dipes with no cover, and you have to really slather on the butt cream, I mean a ton! so when they go pee or poop it won't irritate sore skin.
Another thing that works well is Collidial Silver.
For bum cream I use bag balm or just plain lanolin..

When Zoe gets a bad rash-as she is prone to with her skin-VERY SENSITIVE-we just let her run around in a warm shirt and JUST the dipe, no cover. Her rash will clear up with in a day or two. I have tried all manner of salves and butt creams and such and they all fall short of jsut letting her dry up.
I also bath her only every other day. babies really don't need to bathe more than that because baby skin is generally more sensitive as it is. when I bath my girls I use my milk and oatmeal bath so it is a little more soothing for the poor little butt.
I would try going just the dipe, no cover, and see how that heals your little babe. You will probably find that she needs changing even more often righ tnow than just every couple of hours.

I use either all free & clear or 7th generation soap, don't use fabric softener. I'll try the vinegar thing. |

What kind of laundry soap are you using and softener if any? Hang in there Julie. I wouldn't think it is the diapers causing the rash. What does the rash look like? Tasha would be a good one to reply on this. I'm guessing that it is probably a yeast if it has gone on this long. I'm not familiar with Bummi's as I used ones that i folded and pinned with covers. Can you boil them or give them a long soak in vinegar? Don't give up yet.
