My sister is flying me from Texas to Atlanta for New Year's so that I can babysit the nephews while she and hubby (and friends) attend a college bowl game in Atlanta.

(Who would have thought it? It is actually cheaper to pay my airfare and hotel room than to take the boys to the game...) Anyhow, I'll be stuck in the hotel room with four boys ages 9-14 for half a day, so I'll need ideas for entertaining them... We'll do the sightseeing thing with them after the game.

They will have their gameboys with them (they go nowhere without them) and my sister said she'd throw some board games into the car, but does anyone have any ideas??

I'm bringing multiple decks of cards and if I can gather stuff up ahead of time, I'll mail a box of craft materials to my sister (so I don't have to try taking scissors and stuff on the plane.)

I thought perhaps we'd order pizza, root beers and have a party. Use M&Ms instead of poker chips to play poker, if my sister's not too offended by that... The boys are pretty advanced for their age.

Do hotels have DVD players you can rent? I was thinking that movies are always good...

Any other ideas?

There may be some things in walking distance of the hotel. Maybe you could check that out too. Im sure you will figure some things out. More than anything it will be fun for all of you to be together.

Wow- thanks to everyone for their suggestions - esp. Karin! I'm probably not going to have the car since they will need it to get to the game, and I don't esp. like driving in strange cities anyhow, but we'll use the list of places to visit for AFTER the game! (Just let the BIL drive!)

I'm also going to check and see what the hotel has - they may have some kid/teen activities planned for the holidays...

Depending on the hotel you can also pay for nintendo games these days, poker and pizza sounds fun. And I would still toss in the suits cause the pool might be heated and lovely!

The Zoo is awesome in Atlanta.

Or you could do a whole day of Civil War stuff.......fun for most boys. Just depends on how mush you want to venture out.

Erin- Will you have a car available to you? If so, then......

The High Museum of Art - www.high.org There is a new exhibit from the Louvre right now.

Stone Mountain Park- www.stonemountainpark.com FUN! FUN! FUN!

Fernbank Natural History Museum- www.fernbank.eduDinosaurs, etc. All the cool things boys love.

Michael C. Carlos Museum (at Emory University)- www.carlos.emory.edu (This one is free but be sure to check hours of operation as they are connected to the university) Mummies and Roman artifacts as well as Meso-American artifacts. Very nice.

Georgia Aquarium - www.georgiaaquarium.org Way cool!!

Zoo Atlanta- www.zooatlanta.org We have a new baby panda!

Peach Bowl Events- Parade at Peachtree St. 1-2 pm, FunFest at the Georgia World Congress Center

Also we have The Center for Puppetry Arts, The Varsity (for lunch! An Atlanta institution!), the state capitol, the CNN Center, Underground Atlanta (just ok), the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and of course malls and movie theaters.

Exhausted yet?:) You will be!! There really is a ton of stuff to do here. If you want to travel a few hours, there is the Little White House in Warm Springs (FDR's vacation home) and Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain (Beautiful butterfly center) You never know what the weather is going to be like here in the Peach State, so I tried to give you a mix of indoor and outdoor events. Hope you have a great time!!
Oh! I almost forgot- Ikea!! You can eat up a good portion of the day, fun place to go and they have a cafeteria with really yummy lunches!!

BOYS! What fun! I have two. Maybe since they can't go swimming they will have an indoor hot tub. Hotels don't have DVD players to rent, but you can just rent movies right off the TV and it gets charged to the bill. Will you have a car? Maybe you could take them somewhere. And like Nancy said, make sure you feed them alot! Pizza can be delivered to the hotel. Just have fun!

It has an outdoor pool which probably won't be too much fun in December, but normally that would be what they'd be doing - playing in the pool... :(

Does your hotel have a swimming pool? That's always a nice treat for kids, and burns up alot of energy.
