Posted - Nov 20 2012 : 05:46:34 AM Today after school my DD is auditioning for our town's school Chamber Orchestra. She plays violin. My DH and I always joke that we do not know where she came from because she is so musical (we are NOT). She plays violin, something she begged to do since she was a small tot. She took lessons for several years and our school does music in fifth grade, so naturally she does violin. The Chamber Orchestra is an extracurricular activity where the kids play for retirement homes, in concerts, and PTA meetings, etc. She will have to go early to school once a week to practice. Only a small amount of fifth graders get picked. I'm so nervous for her! And very, very proud!

Posted - Nov 28 2012 : 08:36:02 AM Thank you Joey! Today was Audrey's first practice and she got up extra early no problem. So proud.
That's sad that you only heard your mom play once, but how nice a memory to have.
Hugs, Nicole

Posted - Nov 28 2012 : 08:31:55 AM Just saw this post and am SO excited for Audrey. What wonderful news. Oh Nicole, I know that you and Kim are so proud and with good reason. She is such a good kid. Congrats to you all. My mother played violin. I only heard her play once. Seems she gave it all up when she married my Dad. I know her violin was in the attic of my childhood home but have no idea what happened to it. Joey

Posted - Nov 26 2012 : 05:42:00 AM Thank you! :) She's so proud of her accomplishment and is practicing, and I am just bursting with pride!! At school, her teacher has her "tutoring" some of the other kids having a hard time "getting" the violin. She amazes me, because I am tone deaf and can not read music, lol! Still not sure where she got the idea to play violin in the first place...my radio always has Louis and Ella playing!
We ran into her third grade teacher and she was so excited. She says I will have lots of wonderful concerts to attend.

Posted - Nov 21 2012 : 9:01:34 PM Absolutely wonderful for her. Music was always my dream from a very young age. I love the violin. Cello is my favorite. My instrument is the piano. Keep us posted on her music path. Marly

Posted - Nov 21 2012 : 09:49:48 AM Thanks, Diane! It is a pretty big deal for a little fifth grader. We don't push her, but I tell her I will support whatever she wants to do. She set up her audition all on her own. I just worry if she gets over-scheduled, but she is loving violin. I haven't heard her play in a while and last night she played her audition piece for me in the kitchen. It was so beautiful it made me cry! She is such a good kid. I am so blessed!

Posted - Nov 20 2012 : 2:59:20 PM She was so nervous. A big kid in front of her did not get in. I was waiting for her in the foyer very nervous. Then it was my daughter's turn. ..and she got in! I'm so proud of her. I can't imagine being so focused at that age, but she found something she really likes to do. Really really proud of her!
