First of all, I did not buy the thing. It was gifted to my older 3 by my ex and his girlfriend, Christmas 2011.

Can they skype with it using wireless internet? Or connect, in any similar way using the wireless internet?

No to Skype, but I think they can connect to the online wii community. However, if your wireless network is secure and passowrd protected, they can't connect it to your wireless network (and therefore the internet) without your permission.

Also, I think the Wii does have parental controls that you can set.
