Nora is enrolled in Gymnastics through her preschool, so every Friday we go drive about 20 miles and she gets to go to gymnastics for about an hour. It is a great facility- quite large and they have 4 or 5 teachers for this session so each group is no more than 10 kids if that. Nora is having a blast.

They start the day going through an obstacle course and then they do a circle where they do stretches and mimicing exercises. Nora has gotten to do balance beams, ball pit, spring board, rolls and all sorts of tumbling.

It's fun to see her face light up as she is learning new things and I can see how much she really loves the physical activity. My mom enrolled me in gynastics when I was a child and I can really tell how much it has helped me know how to fall and such just in daily life.

Does anyone else do a gymnastics/dance class? I am thinking of enrolling in the YMCA so Nora could take dance lessons as well.

I am South of Missoula about 50 miles. I get over that way so times but not too often anymore. We have some family in Billings but generally meet them elsewhere for visiting. I do miss the longer hotter summers. My husband and I had an amazing garden in Billings. We like our garden here but the production can't compare to all that great sun we had there.

Wow Emily! That sounds like a great place! Where in Montana are you? I am in the Laurel/ Billings area. If you are close I would love to get together sometime!

My daughter is in a gymnastics group through preschool as well. The class sounds similar to yous. The nice part about ours is our preschool has a small bus (with 5 pt harness seat belts, a mother's dream) that they transport the kids for us. It is great for the carpooling then if I can't make it she still can. Our gymnastics place also offers "date night" and a shopping day around Christmas. Date night consists of supervised play for the kids with snacks and crafts and of course gymnastics for 3 hours. The cost is less than I pay a babysitter for the sometime. My husband and I take advantage every chance we get. Our daughters are happily exhausted by the time we get back for them and we are thrilled to have some time to talk and enjoy our marriage. The shopping days of course longer. We love our gymnastics program and can't wait till our younger daughter can go to the class.

I soooooo wish I had put my son into gymnasitics. He was a 4 yr varisty wrestler in high school, but gymnastics would have helped lay a solid foundation for my lightweight champion! I also wish I had put him in vaulting, but we did not have a vaulting program at the time in our area. We moved, but Pony Club has vaulting where we lived before. It is the only sprort they ofer, since all the kids can share one horse! One of the babies I delivered ( as a midwife) in 1998 , is a vaulting champ in that program.
Our local area has tiny tots vaulting, and I will be RUNNING over there- after gymnastics- if I have another bambino!
So, thanks for letting me share in the joy of kids' gymnastics!

We did gymnastics for 6 months. It was 30 minutes away at a gymnastics center. It was great but DD lost interest. Not sure why. The class was less than 10 girls. Maybe just not her thing. I didn't mind the drive because at the time she was 5 and only allowed one extra curricular activity.

We've been looking Alee, but the other thing is that we're in this constant attempt to move and we don't want to get sucked into something that's really far to drive right now...and maybe even FARTHER after we move...hopefully soon! What he'd really like to do is take a circus arts class and learn trapeze and barrel rolling and things like that. I found a class he can go to but its almost 2 hours away and its mega bucks. Guess we have to just keep looking. I know there is a place out there, we just haven't found it! :)

That is a long drive! That is tough! Are there any classes that are hosted somewhere else? In my home town there were classes that were taught and hosted at the high school.

That's great that Nora enjoys it so much! My oldest (8) would love to do gymnastics but the nearest place is an hour away. We tried community education but what he learned he could have learned in the backyard - he was really disappointed. He wants to take gymnastics in a "real" place and so we are right now trying to decide if we can do the drive right now...plus the cost of the class!
