I recently started using cloth diapers on my 3 month old foster son. I found some cloth diapers from Mother Ease (I really like them). They are terry cloth material. The only problem is that they rub my son on his sack and it's got a little raw spot. Not bad, but none the less chaffed. I change him every 3-4 hours and wear a disposable at night. Should I change him more often or is there something I can put in the diaper that isn't so rough? I have to use the extra liner anyway. It has a terry side and a flannel side I thought about putting the flannel side next to his skin. I also thought about getting some of that fake wooly material since it seems to wick moisture...I save about 25 cents each time I don't have to use a disposable, so I'd like to keep up the trend. Any thoughts?

Most of the ladies on birthdepot have been involved in some way with everything birth. Always be careful, though. I dont know if you have a local cloth store, but ours will have quarterly consignment sales on diapers/carriers, so maybe see about that, too.

I'm just always cautious about websites I don't know, particularly that sell used items. I wasn't as worried about the diaper website as I knew you were part of it.

I've heard nothing but good things, personally, on the used site. I'm a rep for the NEW cloth diaper website, so I can guarantee you good service there, if that's what you're talking about.

Megan, DO you know much about the site? Are they pretty reliable? They do have some interesting stuff and decent prices.

OMG Heather. First generation? Not sure I've seen them. Are they very different from what they have now?

I used the first generation of G diapers. I'm not sure if I like the new generation, haven't used them. But, I loved the first generation. However, my inlaws threw them away. I am so mad about it! UHG!

Hey everyone-you can also buy them used online at www.birthdepot.com. You can also list your used cloth diapers online for free. :)

Has anyone used the gDiaper system? I've seen them at our health food store and they have two options - the biodegradable or the cloth insert.

PS. I bet if you added the snaps on the front of the diaper on those patterened ones like on the bummis totbots you'd have a one size fits all diaper as well! :)

Krystle, good luck sewing them! I wouldve loved to. I, however, lack the sewing skills! I do know a girl at my church who uses pre-folds on her baby. Have you thought about that?

I was doing some research and there is no way I can afford to buy new cloth diapers, well the nice all in one kind. . . So I did some research and I found this pattern. I have tons of fabric laying around and if I get up early and go to bed an hour later than I normally do I can probably make myself what I need in no time at all. I am ordering this pattern as soon as I can (tomorrow) so hopefully by the time I run out of disposable diapers I will be able to have my own cloth diapers ready to go! I found some used diapers on craigslist but I can't do that, it would bug me so off to learning how to sew I go! The biggest project I have made to date is a tote bag so this will be trial and error but I have to do it to keep my kids in diapers! Here is the pattern I found: http://www.chloetoesboutique.com/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=ChloeToesDiaperPattern

It isn't free, but I like the way they look, does anyone happen to know of any free patterns that are similar? I want to order this pattern tomorrow so I would have to find something before then. Thanks :)

Megan- I used the homemade laundry soap and used vinegar in the rinse water. I never had a problem.

Question to all the cloth diapering mama's: What do you use to wash your diapers? I usually make my own laundry detergent, but I'm not sure if the borax/washing soda/soap mixture is going to be residue free. Bummis has a list of residue-free laundry detergents, but, I'd rather use something I know is safe.

That's what I LOVE about the bumtots-it's one size fits all up to 25 lbs! We're using disposables until her umbilical cord falls off though-we haven't had to buy any though-we got a BUNCH of newborn diapers at our baby shower even though we didn't register for any since we knew we were doing cloth!

Here's a website with videos and reviews-I really enjoy this site:

http://dirtydiaperlaundry.com/

I went with the bummis totbots because the business that sells them here is small, I can always call and ask questions/get support/re-sell back to them! :)

Krystle- It really depends on the brands. A lot of the diapers have snaps that let one diaper "grow" with the child.

Neat, I will check them out! Oh another quick question from the pros, how are cloth diapers sized? Both my kids are in size 4's in regular diapers, is that how cloth diapers are sized? Thanks for all the help so far, I am a lot more confident in giving them a try now!

hi there! I just bought a whole bunch of Bumgenius totbot diapers-they're all in ones. The filling is made of that bamboo cloth mentioned above, and you can purchase extra inserts. The store I buy my cloth diaper stuff from is Mother Nurture in Lexington, KY. http://www.mothernurtureky.com/pages/map.php

They are SUPER helpful and VERY nice-they might be able to help you with the rubbing issue AND get you some of the bamboo inserts. :)

Krystle- I second what Yasmine said about the Fuzzi Bunz. They are great. We did the flat fold diapers for Nora before she started crawling and after that we used the fitted diapers (the ones that look like a disposable diaper but in cloth).

Nora and I went on a 12 hour plane trip in cloth diapers and it worked out great. You just need to put something like a 1 gallon ziplock bag in your diaper bag to put the wet diapers into. Really a wet or dirty diaper is the same for cloth or disposable. The biggest difference is the savings on money and the reduction of chemicals you are exposing your kiddo to.

We loved out cloth!
