Girls, My hubby and I are just got licensed to be foster parents and are in the process of getting a room together. We are taking 0-2 years old boy or girl. What things have do you think I should absolutley have and will defiantely use. We're starting from scratch here and have to buy all the stuff ourselves. We get a stipend, but I want to make sure I stretch the dollars as far as they will go.

We have an 11 month old, but unlike Diana, I didn't get a changing table. Just seemed like another piece of furniture in an already small space, and we simply put the changing pad down in her crib and changed her like that. Things we did have and I highly recommend:
crib
3-4 crib sheets (I usually change them weekly), barring any accidents
mattress protectors (goes on top of the mattress and can be vinyl or otherwise)
flannel receiving blankets (large ones, for swaddling)
warm cozy sleepers (my little one didn't dig the sleepsacks, though I though they were great!)
a nice chest of drawers for clothes.
Diaper hanger
rocker
desitin cream
gripe water (couldn't live without this one for the first few months!)-homeopathic
infant tylenol drops
Humphreys or Hylands teething tablets (another can't live without)-homeopathic
onsies galore (long sleeve, short sleeve) love plain old white ones!
socks galore.
I usually dress my little one in a long sleeve onsie, socks and fleece sleeper when it's chilly, but always socks and a onsie, even when it's not.
We also had a "sleep sheep" which I recommend. It's a lamb that attaches to the crib and you can turn on 4 different sounds (heartbeat, whales, ocean, rain) to create white noise, because little ones don't sleep well with total silence.
I also recommend an inconspicuous nightlight. We have very little light the way our house is laid out, and it helped to have a little "guide" at night when I woke for feedings.

For little babies I really liked a changing table. Helped avoid back aches. Humidifer too get one now you will need it I like the warm mist.Bath tub or bath sponge it lays in the bottom of the tub to support the baby and keep it warm. Bottle heater. Bottles. Diapers dipers creams tylenol
