I am SO worn out. My twenty month old has absoulutly NO need for sleep whatsoever! She has been this way since birth. She never slept very well through the night and when I make her take a nap during the day she doesnt sleep AT ALL! I have taken her off of juice and now she only has milk or water and she is eating non sugary foods. She is a SUPER busy girl. She was walking at six months and has a full vocabulary at twenty months so she is very advanced. It doesn;t matter wheather she is VERY active duringthe day or if I try to keep her calm and relaxed , she just doesn;t sleep. UGH....I NEED sleep..and I can't beleive she DOESN'T!

My daughter is the same!

My mom says I was the same way. They also told my mom it was milk.........well I didn't get milk for a long time (years) and I still didn't sleep! lol To be perfectly honest with you, I didn't start sleeping till I was 25 years old, through the night! lol Before that I lived on about 4 hours a night. At 25 I got diabetes, and it was like something hit me, and I was sleeping all through the night! Now, I have my little booger! lol She's 18 months, and I sure would love some sleep! lol haha And my mom just laughs her head off!

My mom went to the dr, when I was around 2, and asked him what to do, because she was going to die! First he said no milk/dairy, so she cut me off it, but it didn't help! lol So then he said to lock up all the poisons and dangerous things, and go to bed! And let me do what ever. Seemed to work for mom and I. lol For my daughter though.......I'm too scared! lol haha lol

Any way, yes no tv at all, and she has never had juice, except for a few sips on a air plane when I ran out of breast milk! And she didn't like it, I didn't want to give it to her, but was desperate.......so after that she's never had it again. And she doesn't get sugar at all, all organic home made veggies/meat/milk. And yes it has to be very very dark to get a wink of sleep out of her, then it takes hours to get to that point.....and well yeah it's exhausting.

When my daughter is around 3, I'll do what the dr told my mom to do! lol haha Till, then it's frazzled & sleepless in NYC! lol

Hi Rebekah!
I know just what you are saying. My oldest now 2.5 is/was the same way. Her little mind would just run and run and run. She hardly ever slept and when she did it was right fitful. I remember one night, hubby and I had to spell each other because dd had been up since 6:30 the previous morning and never went to sleep until she toppled over with exhaustion around 7 the next morning.
We just about lived at the pediatricians trying to figure out why our little person was this ball of energy all the time. Nothing we tried worked until we got her on a very very strict bedtime schedule.
Dinner time
Bath time
Bed time..she watches a movie to go to sleep and still has a bottle. (We finally gave up on getting rid of the bottle at bedtime until she goes to sleep well on her own. Picking our battles is huge!!)
Good luck with your little ball of almost two. You'll miss this age when its gone. I do and I'm still doing with my 1yr old.
Hugs!!
Jessie

When I was little I was horribly allergic to dairy and many other foods. There aren't any food allergies in the immediate family for me either. I would get crazy-angry and would need to take Benedryl to stop the reaction. I think switching one food out of the diet a week to see any changes is a brilliant idea. Hopefully it is something simple for you ladies so you can all get a little sleep in!

hhhmm, I hadn' thought of that. However there are no milk or dairy allergies in either side of the family and she doesn't seem to have any immidiate reactions (good or bad) to milk ...but Its worth a shot. I might try it for a while and see if I can tell a difference..thanks for the suggestion : )

Rebekah have you tried taking him off milk? I had a girlfriend whose son was like that, she took him off milk and he was a different child, slept all night and took naps. doctor told her some kids have that reaction to milk almost like an allergy. Anyway it might be worth a try.

Oh Rebekah!! We could have traded off sleep times!!! HA!!! The day we brought Charlie home from the hospital, we could not keep him in the burrito wrap!! He wiggled right out. He was a ferocious kicker in the tummy and he has stayed the same way since. He is getting better. He can listen and put his hands at his side for about 2 minutes now and he can sit through a quick meal now!! It will get better..just keep trying!!!

Also, don't let your stress show. I find Charlie picks up on my vibes.

Cheers,
Heather

Heather, Im thinking of letting Abby do tumbling this summer also. I figure it's a good way to focus all that energy into something. I never was able to rock her to sleep either. i tried and tried but she would squirm and scream and wriggle out..even as a newborn she hated it.
Alee, I WISH they made a lavender lotion that was strong enough to calm her down for the night but so far none of them have worked..I think I have everything ever made: ) I might give the "white noise" thing a try though. We dont have a very "calm quiet" house so it seem slike she owuld be used to noises and things but hey, it's worth a try if it'll get her to sleep. :)

Oh Rebekah- I feel for you! I know some people are just super light sleepers. Could she be waking up to to noises? Have you tried playing some sort of white noise in her room? They have noise makers that have soothing noises like windchimes or burbling creek, or you could just set a radio to a AM station that has nothing on it and turn the volume way down, or a fan. Let her get used to the noise during the day an then leave it on in her room.

Other than that the only think I could think of is a lavender lotion or balm for her right before bed.

Oh my gosh Rebekah, are you sure you are not talking about my son Charlie?? He NEVER slept well and it takes a DARK DARK QUIET room (we use a humidifier or fan to drown out noise) to even get him to get a decent sleep. Daycare, he gets maybe an hour, hour 1/2 on a good day. He is GO GO GO GO!!!! I do try to keep the tv off and I have been giving him things to do manually- like sorting the laundry or sorting blocks by color or size. He likes to help me out, so I give him canned goods and ask him to pile them in a box.

I never had the kid that falls asleep on your shoulder while we are out, he literally goes until he passes out. We could never rock him because he just squirmed and wanted to play. He is a mover and very inquisitive!! You are not alone and know it is normal. Now that it is warmer here, I found taking a walk about an hour before bed time is helping some. I have him run, jump, crawl, skip, whatever just to burn off that energy!!!

I find having a calm house- clean, neat, no tv or loud music on (he does like a soft country song on) really helps too. I turn down the lights at night and set the "sleeping" mood.

I can't wait until he is older because he will probably do great in sports, which will keep him busy and thinking. I am even thinking of putting him in the local tumbleweeds program this summer so he can learn some focus.

Cheers,
Heather
