I have a 6 week old that has done nothing but fuss all day. I have changed him 8 times, fed him, sung to him. He will go to sleep in my arms but wake after about 3 minutes in his bed. It is now 5pm and this has gone on from 8 this morning. He has no fever. I thought infants were suppose to sleep a lot. Any advice???

Laura-

I bumped the topic "Nora and Growing" for you. It got started at Nora's fussy period so there is some good advice from the other farmladies in there!

I think perhaps a little bit of a warm bath with a massage afterwards to calm him, it could be that he has a bit of gas on his tummy, and a good bathe off would help... then just lay him on a warm towel on the bed or rug and work with his legs slowly bending them and do a nice gentle massage from head to toe would be quite relaxing for him, and if he has gas build up will help to soothe him.
Sometimes they can get an air bubble that is quite painful, and just make sure that after each feeding he has indeed burped, you'll know if he needs to burp sometimes after a feeding because if you put him up on your shoulder after a full feeding sometimes you can feel a wee bit of tightness about mid back and if you just gently massage that or lightly pat the back in a massaging motion it will release that air bubble.Best of wishes.

Laura-

First big hugs! You are doing everything right! My Nora went through a fussy period at about the same time. According to my books and research it is a classic growth spurt time. His little joints might be hurting a little and he is probably super hungry and needing to nurse all the time. The thing that saved my sanity was the Snugli. You could use a sling or a Baby Bjorn or a Snugli. That way they feel like they are being held, but gives you a little bit of a break. Just be careful to not over use the Baby Bjorn or Snugli as it can affect their spines, or so I have been told. But to get through a fussy week or so it sure is a miracle!

Hugs! Let me know if you need more advice since I just went through this with Nora!
