I just wanted to share with all of you something I put together earlier this week then emailed off to all of my local mom-friends in my email address book.

Like many of you, I am a SAHM - so it's either keep the kids busy or pay the price. We live in the suburbs, so I lack for the farm life to keep them occupied with the natural pace and expectations that accompany. So I put together Summer Friday Fun - it's a list of places to go every Friday morning (in some cases, through the afternoon, too) through the duration of summer break. The kids can continue to see their friends and make new ones and the moms have one less day to plan something for them to do. Me: By the time I get to Friday, I'm out of ideas - but I don't want them around the tube watching movies or playing videos.

Every week, we alternate between an inexpensive "paid" destination -- local museum, butterfly habitat, swimming pool, etc. -- and a "free" destination by means of different area parks that offer equipment for a range of ages. All of our excursions are outdoors and offer a variety of activities and something of interest for toddlers up through 5th grade.

The "rules" are easy: Come if/when you can! If you can't make it, we're informal so don't sweat it. And everyone is encouraged to pass the list to other moms (but for safety reasons, we're not posting it anywhere publicly...not even on the 'net.)

So far, the response has been *awesome*! We had three moms with kids yesterday, but many more either called or emailed to say the list is on their fridge and they'll be at various dates through the summer. I know for me - it sure beats sitting around on Friday waiting for DH to get home!!! ~ Kaylyn

What a wonderful idea! This reminds me of the activities my hometown library would do every week. You would report in your week's readings and then there would be some sort of activity. It was always themed and lots of fun.
