Diana----Maybe once or twice every once in a great while I come across a little something that really touches my heart and the little vintage sewing case is one of them. I just can't believe that I really have it here now with me!

You are a dear farmgirl friend...

I've been to Rubylane before-Wow nice stuff huh?

-I really just didn't know where to begin the search but with all the clues that began to accumulate here it really helped. So glad you found the site! After I read your response with the photo I searched again and found it and printed it out.

Thank you Joanna!

Hi Melody!!
I'm like you, love to "dig for the information" !! Actually, I came across this particular site quite by accident during my search. It has fascinating items available for sale on it. I highly recommend it to all Farmgirl's with the same love of all that's old. . . it has more than just sewing items. . . a real treat for anyone who loves antiques.

www.Rubylane.com

Also, thought I would share on how I found what we were searching for.
In the search bar for google, type in " antique swedish carved needle case" then see what links pop up. Not all are good sites as you know, however, this time I hit the jackpot with several good sites including this one. Also, when I first began to look, I typed in German instead of swedish, since it was mentioned that there was german heritage. . there were some very interesting one's that showed up under that as well. . . just not as ornate.

Joanna!!!! I knew it was Swedish-I ADORE and collect anything and everything Swedish-WOW!

I searched for hours trying to find something similar to it and I think you are right-I came across "vegetable" ivory on one site. Could you let me know what site you found the photo on?

Thank you-Super Sleuth! Don't you just love "digging" around and researching?

Yours appears to be Swedish and is quite valuble, it might be what is called "Vegetable Ivory" Here is a picture of three different ones on the internet right now and a description:

Carved Coquilla Nut "Vegetable Ivory" Antique Needle Cases All three of these cases are really lovely. The light colored case on the left, large enough to house needles or small bodkins, opens at both ends.

In the middle is an acorn-inspired design that is symmetrical and incredibly realistic. It also opens at both ends.

On the right is a nicely carved case that will hold a substantial number of needles or even several smaller bodkins. It is made to stand upright. There is a bit of minor damage in the way of flaking to the base that is hardly noticeable.

LOL, I'm not sure....on all counts! I think they are ivory, but my husband says maybe some really hard wood. My family was German, so I'm guessing that's where they are from. My first thought was a toothpick holder, but it seems a little elaborate for that :) Yes, I'm planning on selling it...maybe $10?????

Are they wooden?

I collect any and everything Scandinavian and to me it looks Swedish-

Haven't a clue what they are though.

Something to hold thread?

Are they for sale? Let me know 'cause I would be interested!!!

Yes it's white...isn't it pretty?! It is from my mom's "good dishes" set. I use the other pieces for holidays but have just never used the coffee pot. My hubby and I are thinking about moving when we retire and I decided to try and "lighten the load" a bit before we tackle the whole moving thing! Thanks for the kind words!

OH Diana....I LOVE the Mitterteich Bavarian China Coffee Pot! Is it white?

I just started collecting antique white china creamers, but the coffee pot sure would be a nice addition!

Best of luck on the new shop---I put you on my favorites.
