No problem! I love talking yarns and animals! To unwind the skein, I sit down and drape it around both my knees then spread my knees apart till the skein in taut. Then untie both of the pipecleaners and remove them. Finally, find where the skein is tied together. Untie it or just cut it apart then begin to unwind and make into a ball as you go. (BTW, if you end up buying any, just let me know and I'll be happy to ball it for you...I guess that makes the above answer unnecessary :D ). Mohair comes from the Angora goats. They are from Ankara, Turkey (hence the name) and Mohair is a turkish word for a "haircloth" like garment that was worn by early Turks. And yes, each yarn is detailed in it's description. Most of my yarns are made of hollow fibers which make them warm and light. Sorry, I tend to go on...and on...:)

Thank you, Diana. Another question. How do you unwind the yarn to get started? I'm afraid I would have a big tangled mess. There has to be a secret to it. It looks like it's already twisted and I would not know what to do.
So with the mohair I could just use 1 to make a scarf and with Llama or Alpaca I'd need 2. So what exactly is mohair? Does it come from the goat? The picture is of a mohair yarn? And do you state how many yards and what type of yarn each one is in your store? This scarf looks really soft and warm.
I've never bought anything in here ever and I just want to make sure I do this right. Thanks for all the info.

Hi Kris! Thanks for the compliments! I'll try to answer all your questions...here goes! With the mohair "curly" yarn, you can get a scarf or a hat out of one skein of about 75 yds. I use size 15-17 needles on a scarf, and size 11-13 for a hat. I would call it "bulky" yarn, on average. Here's a pic of a scarf. With the Alpaca, or Llama yarns, you can get a hat out of 100 or so yds, but need about 200 to make a good sized scarf, and most of those skeins are 100 yds each. For those yarns, I use size 8-11 needles. I would call them a "worsted" or "medium" weight yarn. I use Sabraset to dye with...it is a colorfast, acid dye set with vinegar. I use some onion skins to dye also, but those always sell at Market, so I don't usually have time to put them on line :) I don't even try to duplicate dye lots anymore...it's always an adventure!!!

Diana, I am pretty ignorant when it comes to handspun yarns. I was just at your "shop" and saw the different yarns and the prices. My question is, how much is in each skein? And how much does it take to knit a scarf? Is each one weighed to make a certain item? That's more than 1 question and I know there are more.
The colors are amazing! I love them all. I don't know how anyone could decide on just one. And how do you get the same color each time? Do you have a formula or is it just hit or miss? And what kind of dye do you use?
