I have been having a BLAST with these. I have a series of cotton, rust-dyed furoshiki (a type of japanese cloth wrapping/packaging/bag) for sale in my etsy store http://www.girlwithasword.etsy.com. I love these, because the sky is the limit, as far as colors, fabrics, and tyeing styles....visit furoshiki.com for ideas of and free info on how to wrap items in furoshiki. The 2 shown here are wrapped around a wine bottle, and a book.

My experince has been with dyeing cotton and silk fabrics with rust. It's my understanding that rust can weaken/deteriorate and add "harshness" to wool - however, do feel free to experiment with it if you like! :)
I'm doing the same thing as you ladies - using them to wrap all my gifts, and using them AS gifts! isn't it fun? I want to make some larger ones (yard square and larger) - they can make fantastic carry-all bags, and, in a pinch, can be used for just about anything - a shawl or scarf, small blanket - just handy to have around..... |

Maggie- Those are beautiful!! I have made myself a set for wrapping and I am going to make a few sets to give as Christmas presents. They make gifts look unique and the best part is they can be reused!! Simply genius. :)

Just love these and the wrapping styles. I love using cloth...reusable as a gift wrap. And of course your rust dyeing is so beautiful. Recently you posted somewhere that you had an article in Hobby Farm Home on dyeing wool (?) with rust. Could you post or email me the issue. I think I have all of them but can't find it. It's possible I might have missed one. Again, beautiful work!
