Posted - Sep 09 2008 : 08:33:17 AM Hi Everyone, Greetings From Northern West Virginia I have hundreds of Hollyhocks, thus our farm is called Hollyhock Farm. My Grandma had hollyhocks at her fence line and as a child, my cousins and I would take the blossoms and make dancing ladies out of them. They are classified as bi-ennials meaning they bloom every other year but once you get them started, they re-seed themselves and you will have blooming hollyhocks every summer. They're all colors from rose, yellow, dark burgundy, pure white and pale pink. I save the seed heads each year for sharing and would be happy to send you some. Send a dollar and self-address stamped envelope to me after you e-mail me. We can start a new group of "Hollyhock Sisters". I have photos if you want to see them. |

Do you happen to know if they will grow in the SouthWest? I would love to give them a try, if you have enough left to share! Please do let me know and I will email you. Thanks so much for sharing!

Your mother was Dolly Parton!? ha ha ha! I love her!
I sent an email for seeds, too. I just love them in a garden. I have been a Grandma since I was little. That's what everyone tells me. Doilies everywhere, lace curtains.....hollyhocks just go with that, don't you think?

Posted - Sep 11 2008 : 05:31:15 AM Here's a song I used to sing acapella when I was a voice student at college:
Cabin - by Tennessee Williams The cabin was cozy And hollyhocks grew Bright by the door Till his whisper crept through.
The sun on the sill was yellow and warm Til she lifted the latch for a man or a storm. Now the cabin falls to the winter wind And the walls cave in where they kissed and sinned.
And the long white rain sweeps clean the room Like a white-haired witch with a long straw broom!

Posted - Sep 10 2008 : 09:02:09 AM Hi, Dutchy, you really have been busy! Everything looks great, you do good work. Your cabinet looks real nice in white and 'pink'. I am painting my office. I had to take the paneling and the really old wallpaper off first. Got it primed last night and my daughter will help me sheetrock one wall today. I am looking forward to it being done. Have a great day.
