Posted - Sep 02 2008 : 8:36:31 PM Thank you for your kind words! we are getting to the time of year when the slant of the sun casts such a beautiful light on the fields. My favorite time of the year! I love, love, love to see the draft horses in the fields. To me that is an amazing sight.

Posted - Aug 31 2008 : 8:37:19 PM The thing I always keep in mind when photographing Amish, since this subject often comes up, is I don't show faces- or enough of a face to be identified. I do the same when I paint. Also Amish don't want to 'pose' for photos. If you'd ask they'd always say no. There is a disctinction to them whether they pose or are jsut photographed. I always do it respectfully in that I am at a distance and not intruding and not 'in their face' so to speak. Amish children are SO cute but I don't feel right photographing the children faces even though i probably could. You can see by my photos they are more about the Amish in a landscape then photos of an Amish person, this way they are not singled out which is what they do not like. At least teh ones I've talked to anyways! :) In my are they are old order Amish and more conservative.

Posted - Aug 30 2008 : 10:30:46 AM Sue, you have such a keen eye for photography...I wish I did. We have a community of Heuterrites which are an order much like the Menonnites & Amish except they do enjoy the bennifitts of electricity & autos. But they refer to us as the "English" and maintain a respectful distance. I have never asked if it is ok to photograph them. Thanx for sharing your wonderful skill with us. >^..^<

Posted - Aug 29 2008 : 09:08:14 AM I love my amish neighbors. Its very grounding to be around them. And as an artist I find their pace and sense of time to be in line with mine. :) They take time to visit and just let things develop-- which is what has to be done in the creative process. I am sure many can relate, with all these creative ladies here!
