Hi Ladies

I've noticed more spinning posts here lately (thanks to Diana I think!) so I wondered if anyone knows a supplier for inexpensive drop spindles, top or bottom whorl?

Thanks for any help out there.

Thank you all, ladies for your help with this. I apologize for not acknowledging y'all sooner. I have not been on line much lately due to some personal issues taking up a most of my time. But I do appreciate the references and will check them out. I've actuallly found some very inexpensive student spindles on etscy but have not gotten them. I also ordered some of those little rubber thingys to make the cd ones. I will check your friend's site Elena. I hope to be having some spinning classes here at the little farmette this fall and winter and wanted to have some available for a kit. Thank you again!

I get 12 drop spindles at a time from a real farmgal I know in the midwest for the "Buy it now" price of $48!!!! She lists off of ebay and she also has her own website. They are wonderful top whorl spindles and it is a great "bulk price." Hope these links help!

My friend Abi makes them, and the proceeds go to fun her bird rescue! I do not see the drop spindles on her site, but i know she has them, just drop her an email. they're gorgeous and work REALLY well. I had a horrible, HORRIBLE time spinning on the really light ones made from a dowel and a cd - i guess some folks can, but i never could. i find a heavier drop spindle to be FAR easier to learn on, at least for me.

anyway, my friend's site: http://prairiefiber.homestead.com/tools.html

I make them with a wooden wheel from hobby shops like micheals and a dowel.
Sand off the one end of the dowel and glue the dowel into the wheel. they wook pretty good. I made one on a bus in Alaska going to the next town one time, just had my jack knife. you can make them from CDs with a dowel anda rubber thingy that ya get from the hardware store, it rubber thingy goes in the hole of the CD and then you push the dowel through. on any with dowels you can put a cup hock in the end. you can make them with all kinds of things

Check out ford4him on Etsy...and there are many other reasonable ones there also. Good luck with finding your perfect spindle!

Luna, I looked at a couple of sites online, but they are still not really wholesale prices! I know you can get directions online to make them. Also check around on etsy and maybe ebay because sometimes you can find a good price on a set of them. I got mine on etsy that way!
