Posted - Jan 09 2020 : 9:51:28 PM So I've been watching this unfold all week: We have a significant chance of some pretty rough weather starting tomorrow around noon. Damaging winds, tornadoes, and hail will all be possible for us starting with central TX and working its way east over Friday night and Saturday. (I'm in East TX)
Just praying we don't lose a lot of trees, any lives, and everyone makes it out okay. I'll be glued to the radar starting tomorrow at noon. We had a strong rotating cell pass over the house last April and that's as close as we've come to a direct hit from a tornado. I don't really care to repeat that. We helped with tornado clean-up after it went through a town 20 miles to our south and it nothing that I'd wish on anyone.

Posted - Jan 14 2020 : 8:31:34 PM We survived the storms with lots of wind and rain. I am in East Texas as well. Lake Livingston area. One tornado touched down in a town west of us. Thankfully no injuries, just lots of trees and such down. Texas weather for sure! In the 70's here today! We go from one extreme to another!

Posted - Jan 14 2020 : 09:23:58 AM They can get hairy really quick! I'd suggest following National Weather Service's Shreveport, LA weather page on Facebook, if you use FB. Star it so it comes up first. I check the Storm Prediction Center every day, especially in spring/fall. That is also a NWS page, but just on the internet: https://www.spc.noaa.gov/

Posted - Jan 13 2020 : 05:41:33 AM Hi Amanda, We would get rain storms in CA maybe every 5 to 7 years apart. So yes this was very new to me. Second day in Texas on the drive from CA we stopped with the Penske and a rental car at a small town for the night and experienced my first TEXAS sized storm and that was small compared to Friday's.

Posted - Jan 12 2020 : 6:36:39 PM We ended up not getting much here at the house but I did see quite a few trees blown over around town. Nancy, this must be a new experience for you, coming from CA, lol! I am glad you made it to TX.
Sara, glad that you are okay, but a little jealous over the snow. If it gets that cold, I want a little snow; ugly or not! ha.
I got home yesterday (Sat) around 6:45pm and there was already frost damage on my cabbages, so I was throwing plastic and blankets over them like mad. I am sure they are fine, though. STill, they only predicted it would get to 34, but when it was 33 at 6:45, I knew they were way off. I am sure it got in the 20s.
Hope y'all's week goes great!

Posted - Jan 11 2020 : 11:32:31 PM We were under severe flash flood warnings and the lightening was real bad here. We lost TV, phones and internet. One bolt sounded like it struck just over our house. Sounded like a cannon going off. We are on a bit of a hill so we weren't affected by flooding. It sure was scary though. Didn't hear of any bad damage. Glad everyone is ok.

Posted - Jan 11 2020 : 11:52:58 AM I'm glad you didn't get any tornadoes Sara. It's great you made it home safely Winnie. Here in the Chicago area we didn't get the predicted flooding, ice, or sleet. We have a few flurries and strong winds, but fortunately that is it. I'm very thankful the weather reports were wrong.

Posted - Jan 11 2020 : 08:21:32 AM Our weather saga continues - it's now snowing in Paris - not pretty fluffy snow but wet snow that is sticking on the cold ground in batches. Won't get enough to cover the ground just enough to say it snowed the day after we were under a tornado watch.

Posted - Jan 11 2020 : 05:45:43 AM We were in New Orleans this week and watching that storm approaching was scary. The local weather station was warning people to plan for power losses as well as flooding in certain areas. . Luckily, our plane flights home were not affected and I was so grateful to hit Florida soil on Friday afternoon! We are supposed to get some rain but it looks like the worst of this weather is going to be further west and north of us. Time will tell. Everyone who is in the storm’s path, I hope nothing serious happens!! Batten down the hatches everyone out storm’s way!!

Posted - Jan 11 2020 : 01:36:51 AM The bad storm missed me on the both sides (east & west) until around 6pm when my part of Paris was under a tornado watch. By 6:45pm the storm broke apart so the watch was canceled. What broke the storm up was a cold front blowing in. The air has to be warm for tornados to form. The last several days it has felt more like spring than the dead of winter. The cold front has changed all that - it's 38 feels like 30 at 3:30a.m.

Posted - Jan 10 2020 : 1:49:00 PM Thank you, Dawn!
Yes, Sara, I saw earlier talks about your area and the potential for supercells and the like.
We are getting rain now (which is wayyyy better than having a sunny day on days like today! Takes out a little bit of the energy), but things are really ramping up around DFW. Praying for y'all!
I am just ready for this to be done so we can rest. :)

Posted - Jan 10 2020 : 05:26:52 AM Looks like there's a small band of storms trailing up from the gulf through central Texas (Austin - Dallas). There's a larger band streaming in from the gulf south and east of Paris. Paris is in northeast Texas up along the Red River that borders southern OK. We're under the alert but it may miss us on both sides or we will only get the outer bands - I hope so. So far this morning no thunderstorms in Paris.
Amanda are you east or southeast of me?
