GaiasRose	Posted - Jan 29 2007 : 07:53:14 AM You know, each night when we go to bed, as Rob shuts the large curtains in the livingroom (we have a funny ritual at night and he hates when it goes out of order) he says to the outside, to whoever is listening, "y'know, it wouldn't be a bad thing to wake up to three feet of snow tomorrow." Last night it started snowing and he went outside to the garage for a bit, doing some welding, and he stepped up to the big window on the deck and tapped on it. I went to the window and through the glass he said, "you know, I have heard of this stuff. Apparently it is rain that freezes in the atmosphere and then falls to the ground. I hope this poem that I wrote helps bring some of those memories to life. I know looking at your photos helped me to remember! Thanks for posting a bit of Alaska in wintertime!! Snow Moon by Georgann Phillips Schultz We look out the window, and both shout, “Hooray!” The snow has stopped falling; we’ve waited all day. We’re going outside ‘cause we’re ready to play, Under the big snow moon. We roll three big snowballs and leave a deep trail. We build a stout snowman; he’s hearty and hale, With coal for his eyes, on his head an old pail, Under the big snow moon. We build forts and tunnels and shovel a maze. An igloo appears with a shiny ice glaze. Mom looks out the window, she’s simply amazed, Under the big snow moon. We swoosh deep snow angels and stomp all around. Then Dad brings us cocoa with marshmallows round. We listen to snow whisper soft winter sounds, Under the big snow moon. We go in the house ‘cause our cheeks are all red. A fireside story, a kiss on the head, In flannel pajamas, we’re ready for bed. Under the big snow moon. We peek out the window, the snow is so bright. We dance in the beams of the shimmering light. Then dive under quilts and get snuggled just right. Under the big snow moon.

Mountain Girl	Posted - Jan 27 2007 : 2:51:57 PM My son is in Seward and keeps me posted on the snowfall. He like you loves to ski so he is spending all his time skiing and shoveling. My husband and I visited him in March a few years back when he and his ex-girlfriend were winter caretakers at Exit Glacier. Normally the road to the Glacier is not plowed in the winter. That year we could drive almost the whole way in. We must have brought the snow with us since we almost got snowed in there and the drive back to Anchorage was during a raging snowstorm. This year it's not my fault: ) JoAnn I've always been called a dreamer, but I never listened. I did what others dare not do--lived my dream while they watched. Unknown
