I'm about to wrap up my business trip to Seattle. Because I'm in love with this city (to the point where I want to dig my nails into the jetway and refuse to board the plane tomorrow), I went to the Space Needle last night and had dinner up at the SkyCity restaurant (which slowly revolves for a 360 degree view of Seattle and the surrounding area.) The seafood paella was divine and LOOK AT MY VIEW! Seattle has had a gorgeous week full of sunny skies. Being able to see Mount Rainier so brilliantly clear last night quite literally took my breath away and made my eyes tear.

You brought back a marvelous memory! Our one BIG family vacation when I was growing up was the Seattle World's fair in 1962. It was a family road trip from Minnesota, when I was 12 years old. We ate at the Space Needle restaurant, I remember chicken breast with a mustard sauce, garnished with a little wishbone with a tiny pink flower attached. I still have it among my mementos of childhood.
It was amazing then, though I'm sure the view has changed quite a bit since then.

I LOVE Seattle. My daughter was stationed in Seattle and with 4 kids Military I have had great opportunity to travel. Seattle is by far my favorite place!

Oh how wonderful....we are going to seattle in August, our son and grands lives in Spokane .We are driving out from S.C. staying a month...cant wait ...ive been to Seattle , but looking forward to hubby going |

Well, then you might just fit in really well here Rachel! I can't honestly say I've met many people who like rain and cloudy skies for more than a few days at a time.
By the way....I live in Renton which is about 15 miles SE of downtown Seattle. You can see the tops of our water towers in your picture...on the horizon just below the mountain to the right of center.

It was a delight to see that skyline again. It's quite a bit changed since 1962! Our farm family from Minnesota had the trip of a lifetime that year and we ate at the Space Needle, quite a splurge on a low budget trip. We had chicken breast with a mustard sauce and some amazing memories. I've kept the garnish, a little wishbone with a tiny plastic rose, for all those years.

Hi, Marilyn. The truth is that I want to move to Seattle BECAUSE of the rain. I love the rain. I can't get enough rain. I'm a writer and rain inspires me like nothing else. While I was happy for some beautiful weather in Seattle, my favorite trip was trip #3 because it rained the entire time. I even slept with my hotel window open so that I could fall asleep to the sound of the rain. Both my husband and I prefer grey skies and rain over sunny skies. It's part of what makes us so weird!!!

So glad you enjoyed your visit and got to see such majestic views in June Rachel. I grew up and still live in the Seattle area. While I really do love it here, the cost of living is fairly expensive and the traffic is no fun at all. But the reality of our weather is very important, too and is one topic you haven't mentioned. Have you had a chance to visit this area when the mountains aren't out and the sun isn't shining for days on end? I can't tell you how many people I know from areas that get alot more sunshine who have moved to this area on a whim after a few visits during the summer on "the good days". When the 6-8 month rainy season hits people who aren't used to it can get really down and depressed rather quickly. If you really think you want to live here then I can't encourage you enough to visit again during the winter months to get a perspective for what that's like. Because that is the "real" Seattle, not the views of the mountain and the clear skies. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but it really truly is wet and dreary here for much of the year. People who live in this area tend to forget that on the good days because we enjoy them just as much as our visitors. I really hope you are a hardy soul and will come back but I couldn't not share this reality check with my fellow farmgirls.

I grew up around Seattle. Even had my senior prom at the Space Needle. So many fond memories. I remember how hard it was when I had to leave to go to college in Chicago. There is just something about Seattle! Still love it!!!!!! Now we live just outside of Portland. If my hubby would agree, I'd still move up there. :)

Thanks for all the comments, ladies!! I'm more determined than ever to make Seattle my home. I have to survive one more "peak" (aka the Christmas season) in my current location and then I'm going to try to transfer out there to work for corporate. Seattle feels like home to me. I cried a little as I left because I love it so much. My hubby is willing to move, even though he's never been there, because I just won't shut up about it. It is very expensive, which worries me greatly, but where there is a will, there is a way. And OHHHHH BOY do I have the will!!!!!

That is a beautiful picture. I was up there In December last year to visit my daughter, who lived in Everett at the time, and we went to Seattle and some other places, Mt Ranier was clear and it was beautiful. Washington is a beautiful state.

I LOVE Seattle, especially when you can see Mount Rainier hovering above the skyline! My brother and his whole family (three adult girls and spouses) moved from the Sumner-area in 2008 because of the high cost of living. It started with the oldest girl and husband (and kids) moving back to the St. Louis area because his dad had a job lined up for him -- he was having trouble finding work in the Puget Sound area. Then my brother and wife moved back along with the other two girls... Nothing against the area where they live and they seem to be happy, but...
I live on the east, drier side of the state with less population. I do admit that it's not as much fun going to the Seattle area because of all of the traffic and it's so expensive to visit. But I still think it is a beautiful area.

Sounds like you really connected to the place. Panoramic views can do that! It was good for your soul and I can relate about tearing up and not wanting to go home. Several years ago I took a trip to Germany and visited the village of Triberg (the Wasserfalls are there). During my walk about in the day at noon, suddenly the church bells began chiming in the most beautiful sounds. Women started coming out of their homes in their house cleaning clothes, hair tied back with a kerchief, and setting aside their broom on the porch, or tucking in their dishcloth in a pocket. They all walked down the sloped hill to the church and began filing in. It was a prayer and song break and lasted only a half hour. The bells then chimed again and it was walking back up the hill and into their houses to resume their day and household chores. The next day when I was leaving town, the church bells began again, and it brought me to tears. I too did not want to leave. I just really wanted to don an apron, declare myself a cottage to live in and stay. I felt so connected to such a beautiful place (you can see photos of Triberg on the internet). I think these experiences come about when our soul is awakened. I am glad you had a wonderful trip to Seattle. Best to you! Annie

It truly is a beautiful view and a great city. I have so many friends that live out there and I just wish I could stay longer, each and every time.
