...Ninibini wants to play...

Alas, another beautiful day wasted away to the "indoor must do's"... And now that I'm free to play in the dirt, the clouds have rolled in with buckets of rain and the crash-boom-banging of thunder. I love the rain, I really, really do. These kinds of days are some of my favorites, to be truthful. There's nothing like the warm glow of candlelight against the symphonic backdrop of rolling thunder and pitter-pattering raindrops on the window panes... Reminds me of that lullabye I used to sing to my son when he was a baby...

"I hear the sound
Of the music they play
When little raindrops
Are tapping away
Like a piano
On my windowpane
Playing a lullabye..."

But, silly me, it was so warm today that I started to get excited. I started to dream about working the soil and getting dirty knees... about the smell of fresh-tilled soil, and sticking my finger into the ground to make room for my beautiful seeds-in-waiting... I had plans...

Fortunately, right now, part of my tiny garden is just full cool-weather veggies peeking through to the sun: kale, beets, onions, carrots, spinach, lettuce, garlic, peas... Such a tease. It's my own fault, I suppose. Everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy to plant before Memorial Day - but most especially never before May 1st! Ha HA! But I, the weather guy and my trusty blankets have kept my heavenly little oasis of green in check. When the frosty cold passes, I thrill to lift up the covers and find my precious little veggie babies smiling up at me. There's nothing like it. And yet my nay-saying neighbors just shake their heads, waiting for - expecting - me to fail. I'm an optimist, what can I say? ;)

I just so badly want to dig and clear away the other parts of my larger garden that are starting to run over with weeds, but there hasn't been a free moment to do so when the weather has been right. >Sigh< Guess I'm just singing the raindrop blues today... I know: Be still, my farmgirl heart... This, too, shall pass....

Oh, do hurry summer... hurry fast!

Oh how I want a couple of days of nice cool slow showers. I love to clean house and bake on those days. We have most of our hay up so let it rain, let it rain. We are behind in moisture this year and the grass is turning brown.

Oh, my, Ann! That's horrible! I am grateful for the rain, believe me! What is your forecast outlook? Any relief on the horizon?

Be grateful - we had hardly any snow over the winter and have hardly any rain this spring. I never thought I'd have to water my seeds in April. Crazy weather...
