Please stay safe and check in when you can.

I used to be stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and they are getting hit really hard right now. We lived in a little town called Swansboro (if anybody has ever heard of it!) and it is not looking good for coastal towns and the islands. Saw some pictures from Emerald Isle that are already showing tons of flooding.

Lots of thoughts for all of you on the coast.

leave it to me to just notice this thread...i live on the north fork of long island ny.. hurricane irene had left us without power for 4 days. trees and power lines down everywhere. when my husband and i drove around the day after..nearly every house on every block had trees down. never saw anything like it. the bay is around the block from me..luckily no water came in...though i've heard that in the past it had.

being true to farmgirl style..i filled buckets with water, warmed them all day in the sun. at the end of the day everyone in my family got a bucket of water to wash with. of course the boys complained..but it didnt bother me at all. ok wanna laugh? the boys were complaining about the fact they couldnt shower because the water was ice cold....so i made a makeshift bucket. i took an ice pick and make holes in it..filled a clean garbage bag with water. the bag of water warmed in the sun...and when they wanted to shower we could make a hole in the bag. it poured out of the bucket nicely. i hung a curtain outdoors for privacy. by the time i had even made it, it went into the 4th day without power and they had got the electricity back on..so we never used it.

i used my propane camp stove in the fireplace to heat canned food and perk coffee. we played board games at the table, and it was nice for a change. 20 years ago families sat around the table and played games, much more than they do now. many people now are in different rooms, on their computer or playing xbox.

so many people here complained about the power company taking so long to get the power back on- and i felt annoyed by that. so much cleanup and repair had to be done before the power could be turned back on...and that was all up the coast. Why cant people be more prepared? why complain? learn to adapt and fend for yourself. There are people living with far worse and with far less in other countries. So glad i'm a farmgirl

Well, my sisters baby shower on Sunday had to be canceled! Basement flooded, lost power, and a heck of a cleanup job outside. I'm one of the lucky ones, though. People in this area have lost homes, businesses, etc. We had just come home from Vermont, and the area we were in is a total disaster now. In fact, a friend of ours up there sent us a video showing the outdoor patio where we ate on Thursday, under what looked like a white water rapid on Sunday. Very scary.

Last we heard we should get power and phone back by Thursday. We lose our power a lot up here, so we're prepared, thank goodness!

Hugs to everybody,

We made it through unscathed.
The storm was set on a Westerly track by the time it reached our latitude.
The sea put on quite a spectacular show but all is well here.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers,

I am here doing fine,we were very fortunate and blessed to be spared the damage. . . all around us is flash flooding, trees down, power out etc. Hoping to get things back to normal as soon as possible. . . although it may take quite awhile depending on how many roads were compromised due to the flooding.

Posted an update on my blog as well.

We're OK here in Northeast PA except for no power or phone. Lots of roads closed with either downed trees and power lines or flooding. But, we woke up to a beautiful dry sunny morning and we are all safe, so we are thankful!

Made it through fine, albeit sleep deprived. We just had a huge tree come down and destroyed part of our fence (and other trees) an hour ago, but no one was harmed and no wires down. It originated on twp property, so they'll clear it when they've taken care of the trees that have affected powerlines & homes.

Thanks for the prayers!

Girls, please be safe, especially with the rising water. Please don't drive in high water. I've seen too many people drown in cars trying to get to where they can't. Be safe. Let us know from time to time how y'all are doing. Check in with us.
Prayers to all of you.

Sitting here at the Jersey Shore - just waiting it out. We had voluntary evacuations but most are just sticking it out. We are really worried about the trees coming down, the ground has been so wet. We are pretty much guaranteed to have no power at some point but we are ready for that. I just hope evreyone stays safe.

Here in south central NJ. Wind driven rain and the eye is still over coastal NC. We have a 40% chance of tornadoes and already saturated ground from a very wet August. Praying that none of our trees come down, we have some extremely tall trees behind our home that line a stream that is already running high. We're expecting the worst overnight through tomorrow early afternoon. We should be through the storm by dinner time tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your prayers!

I will check in when I can.

Stay Safe!

Thank you for your kind thoughts--

We're on the shore facing south so, even though it's supposed to be downgraded to a tropical storm
by the time it gets here (Sun night/Mon morning), we're still preparing.

Good luck to all, especially those farther south.
