Midwest is having a heat wave and mixed with the humidity will have heat indexes in the 100's. Dog days of summer. I just worry about the seniors that have no AC. Speaking of AC, last night we had a fire out on the power pole. Apparently a big drain on the line or something. Very scary fire and molten plastic dripping down onto my back fence. Firemen and Linemen came quickly and fixed her up! Everyone just stay cool and drink lots of water.

I ask not for a larger garden, but for finer seeds.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Our governor has declared a state of emergency due to the drought conditions here. They are begging for hay for the livestock. Due to a lot of watering and tending, we are getting some produce from our garden. We're overrun with zucchini and squash. The okra is just now showing itself. I think the corn is almost ready and the tomatoes are starting to ripen, too. We have 3 cantaloupes and 1 watermelon. I think the peas and green beans are starting to show too. I am freezing part and canning part. Also giving some to the family and friends who have helped us out.

It's so hot here that some of the streets are buckling. We need rain, too.

Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world.

We are sweltering here in NJ - no rain here - water restrictions - heat (100+) and humidity so thick you can see it. Give me winter anytime.

Rain! We sure needed it. The corn around here has recovered from the wind storm but needed some rain. Yeah!

Diane, I take care of a 94 year old lady. I have to start fanning myself with sweat dripping down my back for her to see how hot I am before she lets me turn on her AC. She is very cold natured. She still wears wool sweaters at 96 degrees out. I don't worry about her as much as us who are there caring for her. Seems like older people like it warm.

It's in the very high 90's here all week. It's so humid even if we didn't have rain every afternoon things would be just fine with all the moisture in the air. I just start dripping when I go out.

I am glad you caught the lines before something bad happened. Stay cool!

Kris

Hey Guys.. Has someone noticed that it is the FARMBELT that is being hit and hit hard this year?? IF you were able to save your gardens.. CAN, CAN, CAN! Also it would not hurt to stock up NOW on LOTS of grain products, etc. that your family uses regularly. We can only begin to imagine how high the prices will rise with the potental huge crop loss this year -- from the Dakotas thru Texas and some points east.

It is 112 today in northern Indiana. I'm so thankful for air conditioning. I remember growing up we didn't have a/c and when these hot stretches hit sleeping was difficult. We would sleep in the basement. I also remember that it seemed like when it the temperatures were at their hotest, that's when the beans and tomatoes were ready for canning. Stay cool!
