We are going into our 12 straight day and 24 day over 100 degrees this summer. We have gotten only 2 inches of rain in 6 months. This is very unusual for East Texas. Most summers we get 3 or 4 days of over 100 and by now we should have gotten 20 - 25 inches of rain. We have lost all of the crops this year. Pray for us. The land is literally on fire. We need rain.

It is blazing here in West Texas. It was 94 last night at 10:00p We've only had 2.94 inches of rain this YEAR. Last year at this time we'd had almost 14 inches. Unbelievable! We are praying for rain. |

I'm new to this post but after reading all of having such different kinds of weather I thought I'd stick my head in and say "hello". We live in the high desert of Ca where the temps get as high as 120 and as low as below freezing. Our average rainfall is about 3 inches but this year we had four inches of snow on the desert floor and we're at 2500 feet above sea level. My hubby and I just gaot back from a 4,000 mile trip traveling through AZ, NM, TX, OK, MO and KS. We left here June 19 and had lovely weather all the way across but on the way back we had heat and wind. It's windy here more than it's not with some of our winds gusting over 100 mph. I can empathize with all of you that have the hot dry conditions and wish all of you that have to much "wet" would send some of it our way. |

We have been watching the weather down your way and shake our heads in disbelief! Please know that we are thinking of you way up here in the North woods! And hoping rain comes very, very soon. It must be so frustrating and disheartening, but what can a body do? We just don't have any control over Mother Nature. And losing all the crops this year. I am so sorry about that. Don't lose hope...the rain will come!

Out here we are at 30+ days over 100 and no rain in forever-it is truly starting to look like the dust bowl here. I was at my mailbox the other day and turned around and could not see the cotton gin that is less than a mile from my house. The dust devils are really big and scary looking too.Ii stop my car and wait for them to go by sometimes. Mary-I know where Troy is-my dad is from Bruceville and mom grew up around Cego. My grandmother is still in Bruceville and my uncle lives in Temple, so when visiting in roll by Troy on I-35.

Fellow Texans.. it's just plain HOT. And according to the US Oceanic weather site, this exceptional drought for Texas is supposed to last more than just this year. Maybe we need a new topic on water conservation, harvesting and using gray waters too.. If we don't want the farm in "farm" girls to resemble the dust bowl of the 30's, we're gonna have to find some creative ways to water those things we want to save. Suggestions, girls? .... must be going on 4 weeks of over 100 in central Texas now. For us, rain is what happens in the shower in the morning. |

Victoria, I live down in Orange, and it's the same for us. We got a few sprinkles of rain this week for just a minute or so. Nothing like we need to soak the ground. I've given up on my garden,it is burned and it costs too much for us to continue to water it. Now we are watering our ferns and other tropicals we have in the yard that normally get PLENTY of water on them.
I've never seen it like this around here. Usually we get too much water and the plants get water-logged. But not this year.
It's been so hot I'm already tired of Summer and I'm ready for Fall and Winter.

Oh Victoria - how I wish I could send you some water! We've lost all we planted too, and never even got to plant some stuff because it is so wet here - we are almost 20" of rain above normal! It amazes me how one area of the country can be so parched while another is drowning. Guess we'll never understand Mother Nature.
