Good morning farmgirls!
This morning I noticed here in NJ the first sprouts of my crocus, daffodils and tulips! And in the weird signs of Spring, I also saw the first fly of the season buzzing around, fat and lazy. As if he'd just gotten back from vacation on some tropical isle.

Any signs of spring in your neck of the woods yet?

We have had a very severe and long winter.Everyone is ready for spring. In Montana it will be awhile before we see anything green except somebody's John Deere tractor with a blade on it!

Even though it's been pretty chilly and rainy in central NJ, I just noticed these right outside the door where I work! :-) They're so tiny! but an absolute carpet of spring beauty, if you ask me.....

Of course, I post a topic on signs of Spring and the temperature plummets. It's been freezing here lately but today is torrential rain, which is melting a lot of the snow pack that we've had on the ground since December 26th. Nice to see the ground again.
I had a good chuckle when I realized that there is lettuce sprouting on my lawn. I let some go to seed last summer, as I'd never seen lettuce flowers (former city girl, now in the suburbs) and the seeds blew on to the lawn. I live in a townhouse where we're not supposed to grow food items in front of our house. However, most people wouldn't recognize lettuce if it wasn't iceberg, so I get away with it. I'm not sure the "association" will approve of the escaped lettuce so I have to go corral it back in to the beds.

Forgot to mention the pollen. I have been sneezing and my eyes are all red and itchy and watery. That reall y is my least favorite part of all this. So now for at least a few months I will be this way. Yuck.

I have been picking jonquils for the house and just love them. They perk up the place for sure. And of course there are flies all over the place already. That is something I do NOT miss at all about spring and summer. But I guess on a farm with all the poop it can't be avoided. But I hate them! I have fly swatters in every room.

Hay Ya'll We had 75 degrees today and the hummingbirds are back. Did you know that when you see a blue bird that a loved one no longer living is with you? And did you know that for every red bird you are suppose to get a kiss? Thats what they say.... Feed the birds and love the flowers, jonguils and lil' emily's and dandelions are jumping up everywhere!! To bad its just February coz I really want spring to be here.

Holding my breath in Dixie, Love to all, Daizy

A good day is when you find ALL your ear tags! I wonder how my cows would like my Farmgirl apron??

Beautiful clear blue skies here in Maryland. Not too chilly either, but the 50 mph gust of wind make working outside a bit challenging today! I keep waiting for Dorothy and Toto to fly by my sewing room window. I sure am enjoying the sunshine though :)

Spring is definately on it's way! Friday I came home to about 50 robins in the backyard. What a wonderful racket they were making. The next day they were gone, on their way northward!

Tomorrow's our last day of the warmup. Wow, did we enjoy it although there was a little fervant shoveling off the goat shed as we noticed the inside some bowing and cracking. Yikes.

Our harbinger of spring is all the piles of doo-doo from the dogs after they quit going into the woods to do their number when the snow got so high. Country living at its finest.

Local news stated yesterday that we have lost 40% of our snow pack just since Sunday. Then today we hit 45 degrees. Yahoo!

Come on SPRING!! I can't wait. Starting to see some of my flowers peeking out of the ground. We have had 5 snow storms in Arkansas this year. must be some kind of record I am sure. LOL Ready for spring so I can start planting my garden.

First Robin? That's great! Whoot! Spring is on the way... I've alos noticed a lot of buds on trees are getting fatter and changing color slightly. It's not a huge difference, but it's there.
I love watching out for all the subtle signs of what the Earth is doing right in front of us.

The snow melted a bit in my front flower bed and to my surprise the irises were up about 3"s! It was a very welcoming sight after the blizzard we had two weeks ago.

Last week we had below zero and even more below zero wind chills. Yesterday and today it is sunny and in the upper 30's! Heat Wave!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

That is wonderful:) We too have been blessed with some nice weather in Co. The snow is melting alot, although, for us, it has been a mild winter. No sprouting flowers as of yet...but in another month or so. Enjoy your weather:)
