Old man winter has a wild hair up his, well, you know. It's not even officially winter yet and in South Florida it's below freezing. Really? I had to carry the space heater from my house to the office this morning (no central heat at the farm office, I mean it's Florida, didn't think we needed it). I'm holding back tears because our 200 acres of squash look like death incarnate from the 27 below we had last night, same thing tomorrow night. Supposed to have at least three more weeks of harvest! Looks like that isn't going to happen. Oh, and the high is 61 for the next few days. I think I need to invest in a jacket, and plan for some hard times at the farm.

Hope everyone else has better luck with the weather!

Brandy, I heard on the news about Fla. and the freezing temps there. I am so sorry about your squash. I know that's gonna hurt. I hope the weather warms up for you soon.

Brandy - 200 acres of squash, and that is one plant that cannot take the freeze. Looks like (I live in north Florida) I won't get as much squash at our famrer's market! I am so sorry!!!

Brandy,
I so sorry to hear of your disastrous weather. It can be very scary being a farmer. I pray you can survive on what you have already harvested. I know the squash must look scorched from the cold. Try to be strong. Best wishes
Marianne

Oh wow that is just awful news. 200 acres--ouch.
I have a friend in Ocala and they just cannot believe the low temps.
I hope you can salvage something. MB
