the black bears start coming out of hibernation and scavenging for food. I had a very large black bear on my front porch on Sunday trying to get the birdseed out of my feeder. I knocked on the window, and he just looked at me and went back to eating my birdseed!

They are beautiful animals, but are also terribly destructive!

The wisteria is blooming everywhere --- The June bugs are attacking the back door and the cats are exhausted from chasing them around the back door, the horse blankets are decorating the clothes line instead of the horses. We open all the windows of the house and I love it.

You can tell Spring is here when...all day you've been thinking when I get off work and get home I'm gonna...

And by the time you get off work...it's raining. <sigh>

(I was going to take the miniature horses for a walk tonight)

Here we've had swans. They use this area as a stop on their way north. They have babies and as the ugly duckling story goes they aren't very pretty compared to the parents. It sure is neat to watch them change to white swans. No bears here but I heard the other day there was a cougar in someones yard just up the hill from us. Lots of birds of every type and I've seen quite a few with nest building material. I cut my grass last weekend. Funny thing was this morning I got up to a hard frost covering everything. Spring is so weird sometimes but I love it.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

For us the blue bird scouts have come and now gone so in a week or two the females will be here making nest. All 4 of our bird housees have two or more nestings in each box. The spring flowers and the weeds are also in bloom. Yap the grass cutting is about to begin. Lilly

Yup - bears in the Spring is the norm around here - we are used to them. They are fun to see, but they are also very destructive. Robins came this week too - so maybe Spring really is here!!

Luanne,

Yikes! But you sound like its normal to have a bear on your porch.

We're thinking Spring just might be here since the robins showed up in our yard last week, the possums eating the bread we throw out for the birds and the neighbors cats are back to getting into our trash now that our 10 inches of snow has thawed.

He is usually only here early evening or night. Bears in this area hibernate and are just coming out of their dens. They are hungry, and there is not much food growing yet for them, so they scavenge bird feeders, garbage cans etc. Just have to keep an eye out for him when we are coming and going!

Luanne, I sure hope he doesn't make your house a habit. That could be dangerous. Does he just come in the evening? Be careful.

I live right in a valley between 2 big mountains. I have never seen a bear here yet. We are way out in the country, too. I have heard coyotes alot, though. I like to go for walks out back. I guess I should be careful.

He stayed for about 5 minutes. I didn't get any pictures because I didn't want to open the door, plus it was getting close to dark out. Actually he came back again the next night to the back porch, but I had outsmarted him and already moved the garbage can to the shed!!!

Amy - what is a bufflehead? Guess we don't have them in PA !

Wow! Sounds exciting! The canadian geese and the buffleheads are back, which is a great sign, but it would have been far more exciting to see a bear on my front porch! Did you get pictures??
